~~~~o all, my female just dropped 35 slugs and no viable babies :'( I was just wondering if anyone could tell me poss. reasons for this. the slugs were an orange color. I was meticulous about temps. both hot and cool side.....fresh water was always available. light is on an auto timer. I don't know of any other external reasons for this. this was her first time being breed and she is about 9 ft. oh well all replys welcome...
The same thing happened to my female last year. It was her first time as well. I have been told that it is not at all uncommon for this sort of thing to occur the first time a boa is bred. Apparently it takes them a few times to figure out how to get it right. I'm hoping this year she will breed succesfully. Better luck next time, stiff upper lip and all that...
First time females actually do a better job producing babies that "proven" females do. I'd much rather buy a unbred female to one that may bring with her complications from prior attempts.
Slugs? Usually I think substandard temps or inadequate water availability but then... I just had a full litter of slugs myself four days ago. What do I know.
sorry to hear that jeff, after partially getting over the frustration I started looking at my equipment and believe that I am getting untrue temp readings. my own fault for buying cheap thermometers....will be getting temp gun in next few weeks. I appreciate the reply.
