The male has courted with her numerous times and has been riding on her back.
My question is will the real breeding occur when she ovulates?
Does the male have to mate with her to make her ovulate?
How long does he have to be with her before ovulation and actual breeding?
Thanks!!!

First, lets try to answer your questions. :)
The male has courted with her numerous times and has been riding on her back.
My question is will the real breeding occur when she ovulates?
Answer: The real breeding is occuring every time he actually breeds her and leaves a deposit. "Fertilization" occurs after ovulation.
Does the male have to mate with her to make her ovulate?
Answer: Read long winded response below. There's not an easy answer for this one. At least, I don't think there is. :)
How long does he have to be with her before ovulation and actual breeding?
Answer: It varies from boa to boa. Some females are receptive very quickly and ovulate without any problems. Some female are receptive and "never" ovulate. Once again, refer to the post below.
Sorry I couldn't give a better answer.
I have no idea of what makes a female boa ovulate.
I know you can keep several boas in the same conditions and some will ovulate and others won't.
I know a male "doesn't" have to be present for a female to have a pre-ov swell, but I don't know if the male has to be present for the actual ovulation. I have a female that had a massive pre-ov swell this season and she never had a male in with her. She's got a male now. I put him in after the pre-ov swell.
I have a female that's 8 years old. I've been putting males in with her since she was 3 years old. She's never ovulated. She's had more than one male in at a time and she's had single males in with her. I've had other females producing babies while I was trying to get her bred. I guess this one female just isn't meant to ovulate. She's had so many different males that I know it's not the males. It has to be her.
This year I've had several females ovulate. I've never had so many go in a single season. I still don't know why they ovulate.
I think if you could figure out "exactly" what makes a female ovulate....
Well, I guess it could be the shortening of days, barametric pressure, courting from males, reduction of food, continuing to feed, changes in temps, actual copulation, changing the water daily, giving them more privacy, or it could be a combination of all of the above. Maybe it's none of the above. Maybe they just ovulate when they're ready and everything we do..... Well, it could be that any thing we do to encourage them to ouvlate is pointless. Maybe they produce in spite of our best efforts and not because of them. LOL. I read that somewhere. :)
I think for the most part you just have to put them together. I think the boas know what to do. All you need to worry about it making sure they're well cared for.
I do know there are theories as to what makes a boa ovulate. I tried several of these theories. None of them have worked for me. I finally decided to give up on the other theories as to what makes a "boa" ovulate.
I've since decided to figure out my own boas. I know what works for my boas. It doesn't work everytime, but it does work. Each year I change what I do ever so slightly. Eventually I hope to have 100% breeding success on the ones I pair up. This year I've got 7 pairs. So far, I've got 5 that are preggo and 2 others that have had pre-ov swells. I also have that 1 female that has yet to ovulate paired up again. Yeah, I know that makes 8. The one that has a pre-ov swell without a male was included in the count. So, I paired up 7 and had a surprise pre-ov swell. I paired up an 8th female after the fact. I never intended to pair her up, but it worked out differently. If all goes well I'll have 7 litters this year. I still don't think that one female will ever produce. I think she's one that's not meant to be. Of course, she is a GREAT PET and that's all that matters.
I'm sorry I couldn't give you a better answer. Hopefully someone out there has figured out what makes a female ovulate. Hopefully someone knows of a breeding method that works for everyone, everytime.
I'd like to think the rest of the people that are breeding boas aren't as confused as to "how it works" as I am.
I really don't know a darn thing about breeding boas. I think my boas are smarter than me and they just do what comes naturally. I think any ovulations that occur with my boas are not from anything I do to make them ovulate. Except for putting them together. :)
Of course, my boas do get excellent care. Maybe if you take good care of your boas.... Then they'll take care of the rest. :)

I think it depends on how the presents are wrapped. However, if he is in her "presence" she may allow him to give her his presents.
