I placed my pair of boas together on October 5 and he did not court her for about a week after I placed them togther. About six days ago he stopped courting the female and I do believe he is in his shedding cycle (he is an albino and it is difficult to tell). He courted her for about two and a half weeks. So my question is this, Do males stop courting when they are going to shed? Has anyone out there ever experienced this? I would appreciate any information.

My males don't stop breeding when they're in shed, but they slow down considerably. The experienced breeders will still breed the most. The first time males will only breed a few hours a day. I check mine quite often, that's why I know they still breed. If I only checked them a couple times a day it would seem like they stopped breeding, since they slow down so much.

My female just got done shedding, but the male is still pretty opaque. Ever since she shed, the male has never left her side. He isn't courting, but almost seems to be 'claiming' her until he sheds. I even tried to push him off of her so I could see the new colors, but I got hissed at for my efforts... the male NEVER gets an attitude with me. He was probably thinking I was in there to take his female away from him. Betcha he's just itching to get out of his skin though.
I think you could leave the male in with your female and just wait out the shed. If you know for sure that he's shedding, you could take him out until he's done, then reintroduce him to the female. He may be more interested in her after a little break. It's up to you really, no harm in leaving him in and no harm in giving him a break to shed.

You should cycle them anyways...enhances breeding activity imo.

I want to thank you all who responded. Yesterday (Sunday) in a matter of a couple of hours my male did shed and was courting the female again. I guess I am like an expecting father. I was worried something went wrong. Something I had to witness for experience.

Well hopefully he'll get the job done now that he doesn't have that skin to hold him back.
Good luck :)
