Hi, my name is mike im new to this forum, i am collecting a female boa that has been a pet and is only 2 years old, but is over 8ft do you think she is suitable for breeding in 4 months time?
I just want some second opinions.

If you have a 2 year old that is actually over 8 feet, you almost certainly have two things: 1) a record setting snake, 2) a snake that will be a lousy breeder and die very young.

cheers but it may be record because its parents where both huge the female was 9ft and the male 8ft and when it was born it was very big.

8ft at 2 years old is still crazy big and could have only been attained by stuffing that animal full of food for it's whole life. That almost guarantees poor fecundity and shortened lifespan.

I agree,

I've heard of boas getting to 6 feet, by 2 years. To get them to that size you'd have to give them quite a bit of food. These boas will sometimes have heads that seem to be too small for their bodies.

Now, there are random boas that just grow faster than others. These boas can get 6 feet in 2 years without overfeeding. They might even get to be a bit over 6 feet in that time frame. These boas have large mature looking heads, and everything is proportionate.

I just think for a boa to grow to over 8 feet in two years.....

It really sounds like someone may have fed it way too much food, just to get faster growth. In order for it to grow that much that fast... It would have had to average 3 inches of growth per month, for 24 months. BTW that's figuring it started out at 24 inches.

BTW was this boa measured or are you guessing on the length?

Anyway, if she wasn't fed excessive amounts of food to attain this size, she might be fine for breeding in 4 months.
It's always best to let a female be, at least, 3 years old before allowing them to breed. It's just better for the female in the long run.

If it were me.... I would pass on such a large boa, that's so young. If they overfed her to get her to that size.... Anyway, for me, I'd rather be safe than sorry.

I picked the snake up today and measured it its more like just under 7ft then 8ft what the owner said, its realy confusing its not as fatty as you would expect.
I will have to see how she shapes up.
