Here is another Monster Tail Hypo. I offered this one for sale earlier in the year to my favorite guy from Miami for $1500. I'm glad he didn't take me up on it. She is a babe! You know that expression or question, "Does she have a Sister?" Oh yea she sure does. She's a keeper too!

LOL!!! No kidding!!!
They really are something for sure. I'll tell you what I think though..........I think your Monstertail momma is the secret to all these amazing boas. The litters she throws are just amazing!! So, what are the future plans for her? Are you going to breed a pearl baby to her........Or, a hypo Monstertail??
John
Here's mine if you didn't see them when I posted them.

I am going to breed the Pearlescents to everything! I am going to breed either a Monster Tail Hypo to the Monster or one of the really Orange Pearlescent litter babies. I am not sure which yet. I am hoping to make lots more like this, the most outrageous Hypo I have ever seen. Looks like she will not produce this year. I'll try again next year though...

That monstertail is one of the absolute most stunning boas on the planet..No doubt about it..
Do most of her neos look as nice as her? (I doubt it or I don't think you would sell any of them..lol)
I want one of them beauties.
Also when are you gonna make an albino monstertail? That should make some albinos as nice or better then sunglows.

No, she is the only one like her so far. I have a nephew of her that is a normal but is extremely red that I am hoping to breed to her next year. I tried two really pink Pastels this year but it didn't get done. Next year is hopefully the year for the multiples of this baby to be available. I hope so anyhow. That plus, maybe a few that go to the next level. If so you know will happen to them...
I may try to make some Monster Tail Hypos het for Albino next year. Maybe. I am not sure about it yet though. Time will tell...

WOW. It was when I saw a picture of the original columbian (in the boa manual), which the monster tails descended from, that I knew I wanted a columbian boa. That hypo just leaves me speechless. Simply amazing. Maybe if I win the lotto I'll make you an offer ;D.

I am a little apprehensive to post this but here goes anyhow. Sunglow? Why would I want to bring Hypo color to the already superior color of the Pastels? I have been breeding for color for a long time. I understand color and how it works. I think that for some reason people tend to assume that the Hypo trait and color have some relationship to each other. I do not believe this to be true at all. The reduction of the black only allows the already present color to be more clearly revealed. In fact instead of one gene controlling both color and melanin production, it is far more like that many genes control these two characteristics. Therefore in order to produce the absolute best or most highly red influenced Albinos possible I should use the most intensely red influenced colored animals correct? Now there are some significantly orange/red/pink Hypos out there but regular Hypos aren't the most common carriers of the most intense reds out there. Scarlet Hypos? Yes, some of them. Monster Tail Hypos? Some yes have really strong red influence but not all.
I want to make redder Boas. Therefore I use redder Boas to make those red Boas. Sunglows? I haven't seen anything older than a yearling Sunglow? Where are they? What are they doing? How have they turned out? I suspect they have lost much of the orange they had as babies. I don't know that to be true because I can't get anyone to post pictures of older Sunglow Albinos. There are Sunglow Albinos as old as my oldest Pastel Albinos are too. The first Sunglows were born the same year and there should be females that are over 6 or 7 feet by now but where are they?
No, I think I will be breeding my reddest Boas only to other Boas that show that strong red influence. I may make some Sunglows or double het for Sunglows someday but right now, I am content to keep on doing what I am doing with my reddest kids.
Jeff
PS Can you begin to imagine what is going to happen when I breed a Pearlescent to another Pearlescent Boa!? Now that, pattern wise, makes me weak in the knees!

Interesting... All about the color baby... Thanks for the clarification.

04-21-2004, 03:50 PM
I HAVE seen two adult sunglows, one male and one female (she was around 6.5 feet or so). And from what I've seen, you are absolutely correct Jeff. They did look very nice and definitely more orange/red than your average albino, but nowhere near the intensity of the pastel albinos. Thus the pastel albinos are my new favorite Boa!
However, I think that some of the allure of the Sunglow comes from the hypo pattern influence and the potential of the gene to "clean up" the random spotting found on most boas. Thus you can get a really nicely colored and patterened clean looking Boa.
That said, I still would take a pastel albino over a Sunglow any day! :'(
John_Lokken
04-21-2004, 06:25 PM
I agree as well. I think the Pastel albinos color will surpass a Sunglow any day. Sunglows are killer.........No doubt about it. But, those Pastel albinos are off the charts!!!

Jeff what do you think about the blood boas?
Randy_T.
04-21-2004, 08:56 PM
I couldn't agree more.. I have been bragging on the pastel albinos for about as long as I have seen em (thats why I went the poor mans route and got my pastel poss het male..lol)
If I had 7k to spend on a snake, I would hands down get a pastel albino.. They are much nicer imo then any sunglows, and I am sure nicer then the super sunglows will be..
Keep up the killer work Jeff

I hope I'm not beating a dead horse here but this was the Red Monster Tail Hypo at about one year of age:

This was her about two weeks ago. Aged four years and just over 6' in length:
http://www.theboaforum.com/forumpics/monstertailclose7web.jpg
Needless to say, every single time I ever enter the Boa room, she gets a good look from me. She is maybe my favorite baby of all time!
I did try to breed her this year with my best strongest red Pastel Male. He however, did what he usually does which is nothing...next year I hope.
Drives me crazy!

She is breeding with one of my two best male Pastels I have and the reddest Monster Tail Hypo male I have. If I am fortunate enough to get a litter from this breeding, I will be able to just quit all together. After all, I can't keep making baby Boas and keeping them all can I?

Jeff, if I had your cage building abilities and all your breeding expertise I'd continue building cages and stuffing every little baby boa I produced right in them, all for myself!!! As you stated in the beginning you didn't get into this to get rich. If I can't buy it i'll produce it. ;D ;D ;D ;D
