I have a large female Common Boa and would like to breed her. I hear there is some trick to it pertaining to the weather. I am able to get hold of a male but not sure what to do about providing the correct environment and mood as wine and soft music just does not do it for her.

I live in the Western Cape, South Africa. For those that don’t know it is the bottom tip of the African continent. The climate is generally a Mediterranean one so have very little humidity. The winters are moderate with very little frost but wet. The summers are hot and dry.

Anyone have any suggestions.

Hi SI

Boas are not that difficult to breed, despite them being rumoured as such. There are a few exceptions, but I have never had a problem.

If the male and the female have been kept seperately the chances are that when you introduce them to each other, the magic will happen. You can put them together now already as mine have been at it for the past month already. Leave the male in with her for about a week, if they are not interested straight away take him out for a week and try again.

You can attempt cycling them, but I have found that this is not necessary in most instances.

Hope this helps.
