At what temp is sperm nolonger viable? And at what temp is sperm at its optimum state? I have been wondering this and would love to hear what you all have to say. Thanks Adamax What about how a small amount of belly heat would effect this, I have my snakes at 77 ambient with no belly heat.

Probably haven't received a response since its not an easily answerable question. There are temp ranges at which litter viability is lower then normal, but that could be read from different views, such as "wrong temp, lower breeding drive, or lower follicle production, or fertilized ova dying from improper temps" so basically its one that will need to be answered by someone with hands on knowledge in a lab setup.

So its a little complicated is what your saying? But if I get this right your saying that the various physiological steps required for successful reproduction probably all have their own optimum temp at which they perform. So that in a lab you could isolate the observations to specific processes such as sperm production or ovulation etc etc and get the temp that each on of these steps function best at thus giving us a more specific temp trend to follow. I know I am a little wordy but am I following you? Thanks alot for helping me out with this. I have been running level 500 trolls in all of my cages and this downloads temps and barometeric pressue in all of my cages seperately and I am able to down load this infointo his rugged reader and graph it out and I am 76.23 at last measurement in my cage inwhich breeding is actively happening. Pretty cool gear my buddy is so kind as to let my borrow from his work. Thanks again Senior Member, Sincerely Adamax

Sounds like you have it down. If you read some of what the big breeders have written you can find out alot from their observations from temp changes etc.
Good luck.

do you have any links or websites to suggest. I have read Jeff's article in reptile magazine and have the videos on order. Just gotta say there is a whole lotta love going on in my reptile room I think the female is finally letting my hypo have his way on what seems to be a regular basis. Thanks again Senior Member

Along with what Jeff has written, I believe Rich Ihle and Jeremy Stone have info available from what they have witnessed. I don't have any links to any of it though.

I got the dvd that Ihle and VPI put out and thought it was pretty lacking, I always seem to find the articles much more informative. I hope that Jeff will prove me wrong with the dvd's that are on the way. I will get on that and look up the info thanks alot Randy. Are you a breeder and if so do you have a site that I can go to?

I'm a hobbyist only, doing it for the fun and love of the animals. Don't really have a site either.
Good luck with everything. :)
