Ok guys and gals, I am sure that like me you are tired of trying to flatten out that newspaper or get that last little bit of cypress mulch or aspen out of the corner of the cage. Well I have an answer to your problem. I was recently watching a boa breeding video which showed Rich Ihle's facility. In his cages was something that changed my whole view of cage cleaning, corrogated cardboard. It is single faced so that the corrogated part goes up. This stuff is great! I have been using it for about a month now and have found it to be superior to anything I have tried in the last 30 years. It has all the qualities that I love in a substrate, super absorbent, easy to install and remove, and best of all is that it is really inexpensive. I found mine at a local container/paper company here in San Antonio.
It comes in many different widths from 16" to 48" and the rolls are 250ft. That gives me approx. 60 cage changes for my 4ft. vision at the wonderful price of $20.00 for the roll!
I really love the absorbency of this stuff. I have boas that love to overturn their water bowls and this stuff ~~~~s that water right up and doesn't turn into a paper pulp swamp like newspaper does. I also use it in my burm cages (36" wide is $30.00 per roll)and it absorbs the urine from a 16ft. 150lb. burm in seconds.
So if you are tired of having to spend 20 minutes per cage at cleaning time and would rather just spend 5 minutes, then this is for you.

Oh yea, I know there are other types of cage liners out there, but this stuff is rigid enough that it can't be pushed up by the snake and end up wadded up in the corner of the cage.

Here are some shots of it inside some cages and also of the rolls themselves.

Oh yea, if you do find a place to buy it locally make sure and get the "A flute" . This refers to the size of the corrogation with the A flute being 1/4" high, while the B flute is only 1/8" high.

Hmmm, I haven't noticed any strange smells when it is wet. But now that you have said something I will have to check it out. Maybe it was just that particular manufacturer's product that had a strange smell. All I have smelled is wet cardboard.

Yeah unless I can find a local source I think I won't be trying this as shipping on one or more of those heavy rolls won't be cheap. Newspaper is working pretty good anyway, but it looked like something to try.
