~~~~o you guys, (LOL why does my h.e.l.l.o get sensored?)
Yeap my first post here ^_^ but many more to come.
I have a Columbian Rainbow Boa (Medassa) and she (i assume its a she since its what i was told) has been with me for 2 weeks now.
I have owned pythons before, a long time ago, so i have intermediate experience with constrictors.
My question is about handelling.
I have read from various sources that these snakes can calm down and become rather tame with frequent handelling, with exceptions offcourse.
Not handelling after feeding etc...
I was basically wondering what often consists of.
Every day? twice a week?
can it be bad if i handle her every day? Does she need her peace for now as a baby?
She is rather nippy at the moment, but then i dont think she has settled in yet.
any info or personal experience is gladly welcome
Thanx upfront you guys
I do not have a rainbow boa in my collection..........however, it seems most neonates are very nippy. (whether it be a boa, corn snake, kingsnake or whatever)
I have found that some outgrow it and some do not. Most with frequent handling: for example three times a week for 20 minutes or so; will tame down just fine and will not require constant handling.
It just takes time and patients...........and do not get discouraged if you get bit a few times. It has happened to us all..........lol. Nothing that some warm tap water over the head won't cure (that is if they won't let go.............he........he........he)
Otherwise enjoy your new pet and don't worry about it. Chances are it will outgrow it and mellow with age. :)
Welcome to the forum. It is a nice place to come and hang out.
I think that Jade covered handling pretty well for you.
Nice little CRB too!
