hey every one!
i got a question- this is about the 2 locales of boa constrictor amarali!

i have checked a few people out, looked at their research n stuff about the brazilian amarali being the only silver back. i have also talked to a bunch of people at shows who agree (reputable people)

i recently have been told other wise, saying the bolivian is the silverback!

i wanna know your oppinion on this subject, and find out whats the real silverback. as far as i know, its only the brazilian, not the bolivian.

thank you vey much ;D

"Silverback" is the name of a BLOODLINE. This name was coined by Joe Terry in Florida sometime before 1987. He is one of the first and most successful breeders of Boa Constrictors. Joe purchased Boas from Louis Poras, then an owner of a reptile business called "The Shed". This was in the early 1980's. Louis told Joe that they had received a shipment of birds from Bolivia and along with those birds were Boa Constrictors. These Boas formed the foundation of all Bolivian Boas in the US with a few very rare exceptions. Joe had two pair of these animals and one pair he named "Silverbacks". These animals and their descendants are the only "Silverbacks". There are other Bolivinians that have silver backs but they are not "Silverbacks" because this is the name of a bloodline not a description of a characteristic. People voicing opinions based on a gut feel can often confuse the issue. Especially when these people are someone that is "known". However, this is the real history of the "Silverback" Bolivians. This is not based on my opinion but on historical facts as revealed to me by Joe Terry who was the first one to breed Bolivians in captivity in the US. In fact, Joe had five litters of Bolivians before anyone else did. Atta Boy Joe!

so it is bolivian, and silverback is only a name to a line, not a real "morph" so to speak- well it is for his line.

wow! see, you do learn something new everyday. thats a pretty cool history lesson learned. i heard only short stories about "the shed" by some of the people who have been around.

k, so originally there were only a few bolivians imported to this country??? is it illegal for exporting bol amarali's from brazil???

now i got a serious question reguarding that situation, would that be dangerous when breeding??? i mean the lack of bloodlines n stuff, that must be some pretty severe inbreeding, no????

thanks for answering my question mr.ronne!

later

will
