Alright, some of you may find this funny, some of you may get a little upset at how many different opinions there are about this, but last night my room-mate and I got into a little arguement because I say that the largest snake is the anaconda, and the longest snake are the retics...Not only that but I also stated that the longest was most likely under or around 40 feet. (guessing) - HE SAYS that the longest recorded is 137 feet....WHAT!!!! Is there anyone out there that can give just a little bit of information as to who can answer this, or what web-site may have information to confirm some of this??
Thanks,
Floyd

I checked it out online and this is what I found.
Longest Snake: The Reticulated Python (Python Reticulatus) was recognised as the longest snake with the maximum verified length of 10.1 meters (almost as long as a bus!). (I think that's about 33.3 feet)However according to some myths the Green Anaconda (Eunectes murinus) (left) from South America can reach 18 meters. But up till today the prize offered by the New York Zoological Society for a 9-meter specimen remains unclaimed. The Green Anaconda, however, is the heaviest snake in the world, and can grow up to about 130 kgs. (That's about 286 pounds.)
I hope this helps. b27.gif

THANKS LINDA! b27.gif I'm so happy when I'm right or at least close too. He sat there for 30 minutes arguing with me saying that he swore that there was a snake out there over 130 feet. oh well.....no I have proof!
Thanks again!

Yeah as linda said about the prize, teddy roosevelt put the prize up in about 1930's or somthing like that, it was for anyone who could find a snake over 30 ft, and the prize is still up for grabs today. The longest snake in captivity at the moment is 27.5 ft, and I am pretty sure it is the longest ever.

That is HUGE!!!! It seems a little over weight for it's length though...403 pounds is an awful amount of weight to be moving around. I'll bet that snake swims like a rock....straight to the bottom! ::) Anyway, thanks for the info!

Now see I don't know, there is only one thing confusing. I am from New York and I frequent the Bronx Zoo often. They have a burm there that I have seen mentioned on discovery chanel as the biggest snake in captivity, I am not sure if it is longest or most weight. But that is what I have seen. So I am now confused.

I saw the burm in reptiles magazine in a much more impressive pic and it is the guinness book record holder, and I don't mean to dog on your friends Floyd but 137' is rediculous, did he get that info from that goofy movie anaconda? or was this a late night beer conversation? You would be suprised at all of the reptile experts I meet in the bar who have a buddy with a 30' boa, there must be a lot of them out there.LOL
[color=Red]What about fluffy... the retic... http://groups.msn.com/Reptiles/merlinsworld.msnw?action=ShowPhoto&PhotoID=1658 it is owned by bob clark... This snake eats full grown pigs... I don't know how big that burm is but in the pic it looks alot smaller them fluffy... well just thought I would show you... This pic... Have a good one...
