I have many terrestrial snakes, and I have been looking into the arboreal species. I am really interested in the emerald. I knoe they are expensive, but how much should i expect to pay. I've been overcharged before. And are do they make a good pet? I've read all about them on the internet, and in books but i'd like to hear from someone that has experience with them. Thanks

$300-350 sounds right for corallus caninus
available many places on the net!

i paid $600 for 2 of them (1.1)

just a helpful hint- have your enclosure up and ready meeting all of its husbandry needs.

from what i've read on here those emeralds can be quite unfriendly. They can be handled but not nearly as often as a noral bcc, or bci. They do look very purdy though. -sTEVE

Jeesh, they have one in a pet store here for $800. It's a really beautiful Emerald, but I don't even think it's captive born. Definitely look for a reputable breeder on the net. Who knows what bugs and diseases lurk in pet store animals cwm24.gif.

Hey Tamer I resent that remark, I work for a local mom and pop pet shop.  I strive to have the best reptiles in my area.  I  have a quarantine area for new arrivals, before they ever reach the customer.  Secondly if I think they require veterinary care I have on more than one occasion taken an animal and paid for what ever it needed..OUT OF MY OWN POCKET.  So before you degrade us all give the ones that try and CARE a little credit!!  I am not offended just wanted to make a point is all.

In response to the post I have recently picked up my first Emerald for $450, I have worked with the dealer before and he has had them for over seven months. He has also allowed me to see her feed. I warn you that they require a differing feeding regimen than BCI and BCC though. I can let you know further if you would like, just let me know.

Sorry Slim, but your the exception, not the rule ;)  You need to read some of the posts here (Pet Shop Horror stories) and others from other forums.  Exception, exception, exception...
I help at a reptile rescue, and Pet Shops need the most rescuing.

Slim,
it is true that there are good people out there who try to do the best for herps, I just wish there were more of them like yourself. I just get carried away sometimes, so pay no attention to my negative posts.lol I go to a good pet store in my area for my frozen rodents, and they only sell captive born animals in their store, so I apologize for the generalization. cwm25.gif

Emerald Tree Boa Intrest,

My name is Christina and Im from San Francisco, ca. I purchased my emerald tree boa for about $550.00 not including cage set up and acessories. I'm also getting another one for breeding. They can cost between 150-2,000. It just depends on the blood line, what kind of emerald your getting. Here is my website to check out my collection. I love my emerald she is great, never been bitten by her, although they do have the LARGEST teeth in boas, so it's possible she can bit anytime. They are easy to keep in my opinion, but than my snakes are very spoiled by myself. im going to try to ad a pic for you of her....
