Hey all!
Just a question on Dumeril's behavior.  I have a 5 foot female beauty that has been around for a little while.  But regulary, when I clean the cage, she defecates shortly afterwards! ;  It almost seems as if she is 'marking' her territory.  Now, I know that snakes aren't territorial...but these small 'urates' seem to happen shortly after she goes back into her cage.  I know she's not stressed, as she is one of the best tempered snakes I have ever known.  She loves being around my neck, and is really calm.  I'm obviously not worried, just curious, because I haven't noticed this behavior in any other of the many snakes I have kept over the years.  btw, I think Dumeril's rival my BCI any day as far as beauty and temperament.
Any input would be appreciated.  Thanks, PythonTamer

I have been told that handling and cleaning the cage or rearranging the cage can stimulate defacation. When my boa hasnt defacated in a while I will usually clean the cage and rearrange it and out comes some boa poo. Hope that helps.

Thanks for the input! It's just one of those little curiosities that keep us wondering...I guess the answer was right in front of my nose ( no pun intended!) LOL ;D

I have 2 Dum's, a 3 yoa 5' male (Max) and a 1.5 yoa 3' female (Aries). Both have the best temperments of all the snakes I have owned. Max also appearently feels that I need practice at cleaning his cage. It's pretty much guareented that when I clean his cage out, that within 24 hours he will create anther chance for me to hone my janitorial skills. It's a small price to pay for giving my boy a good home. ;D
I agree that Dumerials make beautiful additions to anyone's "family".
