Heidi Prescott:, national director of the Fund for Animals, headquartered in Silver Spring. "We certainly would like to see a total ban of exotic pets nationwide,"

Melissa Kaplan:"I'd like to see a total ban, but I know that is unlikely. It isn't easy to fight a billion-dollar industry. As long as there are people to buy, exotic animal dealers will cheerfully sell, no matter what the impact is on wild populations or on the animals -- or humans."

One of those is a wonderful quote from a person I believe to be a moderator at kingsnake. But I promise not to say who she is (melissa).................Let the truth come out.

that sort of comment is total crap...not a single person has the right, (or atleast) should have the right to ban the ownership of for the most part a pet that is no more dangerous then the everyday household dog or cat...I have had reptiles for as long as my children have been alive (and many years before them) and not a one has ever injured my kids..but I have had 3 cats that attacked my children...... :'(

Let them say what they want . . . but keep them informed. We have perfectly good arguments to what we do. There the ones who will come to us when a species needs to be re-introduced into an ecosystem because of miss management by the local human pops need for protien. You can say that the Herp trade is affecting some ecosystems. Look to the Royal Python of Africa... there are boat loads of breeders here but wilds are still in demand. We need to make sure that WE ALL buy animals from BREEDERS so that the wild populations do not deplete. On occasion it is necessary to bring in a wild caught to strengthen the existing CB gene pool but stress to your friends who want to get into any Herp to buy from a breeder.

The death by fad thing. They Act like it is only exotic pets. What about the thousands probably millions of dogs and cats that are euthanized every year because a home cannot be found for them.

I can't believe how irresponsible that journalist and the newspaper were!!!!!! Why is it that news these days is completely biased? You have to read or watch multiple reports just to get the whole story. What happened to informative FACTUAL reporting? Yes, they printed corrections. Unfortunately most people will not see those. That was just a complete pile of warm, steaming, brown matter. I would love to talk to that reporter for just a few minutes.

Yet another reason to paint the letter 'L' on someone's forehead, not saying whose (Melissa).
