I know peruvians are the niciest looking ones. Guyanas and Surinames are susceptible to vomiting. Any opinions?

Well, my Guyanese redtail has never vomitted and always eats great - and he's especilly easy telling when he's hungry. Though I've got to admit that Surinams are gorgeous, the Guyanese redtail boas are just as beautiful. I also particularly like Rainbows (Brazilian and Guyanese) - so depending on what you wish to have thats always an option, personally that is a purchase in the waiting (a nice yellow rainbow boa... also want a red-blood python).

I personally prefer suris (cause that is the only BCC I have) and I have never had a regurge prob with her once (she actually eats quite well and is SOOOOO nice. I ended up with her from ksshane, and I am very glad I did. But I also think any one of the BCC locale snakes are nice and would make great pets, I would look and find the one you cannot live without and get that one. Later Randy T

my female suri took about 3 weeks to get adjusted to her new home, but since then she has eaten like clockwork and have never had a regurge problem either. i liked her so much i got a circleback laddertail suri male also ;D

This is definitely simply a personal preference. I like Guyanas and Suris, although Peruvians are gorgeous too. Don't have enough personal experience to say if one locale is easier to deal with than another though.

Wow Luke, that pic GLOWS!!!
but to answer the question...
peruvians being nicer and suri's and guyana's regurging is not completely true...
If you look at some of the peruvians that older breeders have and compare them to the suri's and guy's that are being imported by novice's, then yes.
In my opinion, anything imported has a chance of regurgitating for several different reasons.
In my opinion, a captive bred and born Surinam or Guyana redtail can be just as pretty, eat just as well, and not regurge just like a quality Peruvian redtail.
In my opinion and experience, Peruvians get a bit larger, with adults of up to 12-14 feet long not too uncommon., so it may not be the best beginner snake.
In my opinion, Peruvians are not as easily bred as Guyanans or Surinams are.
In my opinion, Peruvian redtails are not as domesticated as some bloodlines of Surinams and Guyana redtails, so they tend to be a little more fiesty, curious, or alert as some may describe it. or you can say they tend to be more nippy and hissy than a Suri or Guyana.
I think that if you purchase any one of these beautiful true redtails from any one of a number of established, reputable dealers out there or in here (hint hint..lol.. and i'm not talking about me) , you will have NO problems whatsoever - considering you provde the proper care.
I think you now have some more info to be able to make a more knowledgable decision..!
hope this helps!
would be great if you can post a pic here when you finally do get your new bcc!
thanks - take care

Many people believe that Guyana and Surinam Boas are one in the same. Below is a link to the thread about that discussion here in the ThinkTank. At any rate, they are all generally the same as far as care needs go. As far as the regurge thing that people keep complaining about. I think it has more todo with wild caught boas. You have to remember in the wild it is very likely that the Boa would of eaten ALOT of birds and other wild prey. Rats like the ones we generally feed them here in the states are not something you see in the rain forests of South America. For example, imagine:
You had been raised your whole life eating nothing but cicken and fish for meats. Then someone comes along and feeds you a big ole juicy steak. Now you may love the steak and want more, or you might think it is the grossest thing you ever tasted.
I know for myself, eating liver makes me want to regurge! But I know people who love it and eat it as often as they can. The way I figure it, animals like boas might have the same kind of issues.

Actually, many imported boas regurge mostly from other reasons, such as internal parasites, bacterial infections, nerves/anxiety, and being snatched out of their natural enviorments and crammed in a cage for another..
Hi,
i have a couple Guyana's they are sweet snakes and a breeze to own to date..
here's and old pic of the male pre-shed so he's a bit dark he has a nice pattern on his tail. here's rudee..

the secret to keeping true BCC is keep them at 82-90 and a little more humidity , mine have never regurged in three years..
doug
I hope to have them breed this spring ..
it will be holley third spring...
psps don't write them BCI off as being drab there's some really sweet hogs .
I do like them Hoggies too I have a really pretty female bci that I bought from Mr C English thats a sweetie.

I think he meant to keep this one but let her slip away while she was a baby before the color showed you never know what hogs will look like until about 2 y/o ::)
http://www.redtailboas.com/albums/album43/053003_rose_006.sized.jpg
did I Say she eats like a hog too thats kind of unusal for a hoggie..

i like bothe guyanas and surinames... really, same snake.. but as far as wich BCC to keep, they do the trick for me...

in my opinion, theyre much prettier than the peruvian/ecuadorian/colombian BCC's.
