My little girl is 4 months old and 3ft. long is this unusual for a female guyana? >:(
seems a bit large to me.... i have a yearling thats just breaking 3ft.... how often are you feeding?
i feed every 2 weeks, they are slower growers.

She eats a fuzzy mouse every 5 days because thats what shes use to.
i meant to respond to this earlier... every 5 days for a guyana is way to often in my experience. this is whats called power feeding. really they only ONE appropriate sized prey item every 2 weeks.... this will causethem to grow at the proper rate and insure a long healthy life of the snake.
it may be growing faster, but thats not neccisarily a good thing IMO.
HI,
Guyana do better if fed rat products of equal size I buy my rat pups from rodent pro, then I move up to fuzzies and just weinied and so on.
If you over feed your boa the can actually expell the food item before complete digestion has occured the older the snake the longer between feedings' Your should be eating a just weinied rat about every 7-10 days. This will allow a healthy rest period between feeding.
Most boids don't eat as often as we feed them in the wild and they have evolved to adjust their metabolism as needed.
Some experts feel longer feeding intervals increase life span.
and over feeding can cause organ failure in a 6 y/o snake.
so its a delicate balance better to error in the under feeding a bit..
My guyana didn't really start to grow unitl about 18 mos and then she took off. she now only eats about every 30-32 days, as a three year old.
if I try and feed her a week early she refuses to eat sometimes and this can cause waste of rodent resources, so I ve adjusted to her and don't try and feed early..
remember BCC have a slower growth curve than bci..

Kinda OT but what is the average length of Guyana's and Surinam's? In the market for a new herp and I've had a Columbian before and love then but I really like the coloration on the tails of the Guyana's and Suri's.
TIA
Miles
what is the average length of Guyana's and Surinam's?
7-8 ft for males (and bigger)
8-10ft for females (and bigger)
Bit of a late reply, but spreading extra info could never hurt, huh? My surinam female is just over 15 months old and close to 4 feet in length. I feed her like once every 9-10 days, a little less than the guy I got her from who would feed her every saturday, regardless. I feed her medium-sized, pre-killed rats, the size of her girth, one at a time, but she always acts like she could eat more....
