Hi,
Don't know a thing about Anaconda's there was an excellent article about breeding them in this months reptile magazine. Very factual info about husbandry they don't need to soak to be healthy and large water tanks actually can make them sick due to contamination from feces and such..
  go figure. cwm25.gif..

check out Jan 2004 repitles magazine page 71 this was about the green anaconda but useful article..

When people say that snakes are slimy, I would say that about a Anaconda, They have that look. Very pretty boy/girl you have there. Yellow anaconds arnt bad neither

Is there really such a thing as a mellow anaconda? Could be that my friend just had bad luck with his specimens, but they were all particularly nasty and he's had about every constrictor ever held in captivity.... Do think they are very impressive animals, regardless of their temper!

HI,
Thats a good question about temperment , that mag I read said that their hasn't been a lot of succes capitve breeding so your friends ana's may have been wild caught . They like to catch the gravid females  and then wait for them to drop the babies.
There has been some recent attempts that have been succesful breeding them in large  Vision type cages with only a  small water dish and they have done fine.
THe problems in the past seems to be nasty soaking ponds in the cage that lead to RI, Gastritis and other things and this caused high mortality in neonates or babies.

ps everyone knows these guys are probably the larger than the average BCI   ::) ::) ::)HEHE

THe problems in the past seems to be nasty soaking ponds in the cage that lead to RI, Gastritis and other things and this caused high mortality in neonates or babies.I wonder if using a water filter similar to a fish tank would work for keeping the water clean and thus keeping the snakes healthy.

I think that sounds lik a good idea. I have been looking at Anacondas, but what do you do when they get HUGE? I mean, if I had a plan, I think I could see getting one.
