Tameness is matter of the individual animal. I have had some of the most vicious Ball Pythons that would strike without warning. Most are probably scared to death of you and will simply roll up into a ball if touched. Ball Pythons have virtually no personality. Boas are loaded with personality and are mostly tame but some can be really nippy as well. Handling usually tames most any snake down. Boa or Ball Python. Ball Pythons do not get anywhere near as large as Boas can get. However Boas can be kept small by limiting feeding. I have a six year old female Colombian that is less than four feet in length. I just don't feed her a lot.
Good luck with you search for the ultimate pet!

boas are much better. They are easier to take care of and much better feeders than balls.

i have both, or i should say that i have a colombian and my brother has a ball. the ball gets much smaller. both temperments are very nice, the ball is a little bit more, ummm, sensitive and nervous when being held, but that is because i handle the boa more he handles his ball. i have had better feeding experiences with the boa than the ball, the boa has been a perfect eater, and nearly perfect shedder. lol, my boa just shed, and there are post shed pics in the pics forum ;D the ball wouldnt accept frozen mice at first, so we went with live for a little while. the ball doesnt shed as easily as the boa does, it being that we have had more perfect sheds with the boa than the ball. the boa is almost a year old, and has only had 2 goofed up sheds, which was my fault with the humidity, and the ball has only had 2 good sheds, and its about 8 months old. the ball is in the opaque stage right now, and should shed in the next couple of days. ill give an update on how that goes. all in all, i would suggest a boa, and i think that boas look better. although they are BOTH very fun snakes

Keep in mind you have posted this on a BOA forum, lol
I must disagree with most of you, sorry.4 years ago I had a female cbb ball python that was nearly 5 feet. She was very tame and she did have a personality(at least to me). I regret very much getting rid of her til this day. She is one of two favorites past snakes that I've had. Also, she never refused a meal and she always shed good. I can't tell you wich snake I prefer since I like both species. Ron is right tough, each snake has their own different personality. Hummm, I don't have a point just that their both good snakes ;D.
I would go for the boa, but then again I am an absolute fan of those, and have no experience with keeping balls. All I know from reading all the literature previous to choosing the suitable snake for me (read about blood pythons, burmese, chondropythons, tree boas, bci, bcc and balls) is that balls are supposed to be more difficult eaters (known to stop eating all of a sudden, picky) and more sensitive to stress due to handling. Off course there are exceptions. As far for personality, I don't think there's any difference. My Burmese has got just as much of a radiant and unique personality as my boa does, so I can't see why a ball should be any different.

If you are worried about the eventual size, go for a central american boa or a hog, a large female would be 6 feet. I have had both ball pythons and boas, I don't have ball pythons any more, but I did have a female that was darn close to 6 feet, no BS. They are all indiiduals as far as temperment, If you tell the breeder you are buying from, you are new to snakes and are looking for a realy placid boa most will point you in the right direction.

im not an expert with either but ive raised and bred balls for about seven years. i have one boa that ive had 4 years. at this point i would prefer a boa. balls are good pets but they can be very very picky about food. none of mine will eat prekilled and in comparison, i would rather have a boa. the one i have is a very good eater, good sheds. have never had the first problem.

BP`s will never come close,as for tame ? what is tame ?Snakes are wild animals and wild animals can never be tamed.
Yeah most of us have snakes that "tolerate" their keepers but "tame"
NEVER !

I have both, I really like both, the ball has a calm laid back personality and has never bit me and I think it would never bite anyone, theyre really docile, and Ive owned 2 this one being my 2nd, the first was a finicky eater, not taking f/t sometimes, not wanting rats sometimes, but the 2nd is really good eater never refusing a meal, and also took f/t th 1st time I offered.
Boas are cool if you dont mind having a bit bigger snake, I just find them cooler because how they look, and the fact they give (live) birth to larger litter sizes.
And as far as temperment goes (on any snake) get a young cbb snake and hold it almost everyday and it should make a great pet, and also most snakes need to get established to everything to settle in so give the time and patience.
