Hello,

I was hoping someone could tell me how to spot a cross-bred Boa(Integrades, Columbian BCI x Central American BCI, BCC crosses, WHATEVER!). Saddle counts seem so variable to my untrained eye, and the only snakes I think I will ever get a scale count on will be my own. cwm13.gif

I have read people that say they can tell most of the time just by looking ???.... I think(about 71% sure cwm13.gif) I could spot a BCI x BCCintegrade.... or a Hogg X normal cross.

Pondering the the rest defies my limited experience cwm11.gif.....

Any of you well trained eyes out there care to have a stab at this one? Any shared insight on this would be extremely appreciated!!!! THANKS cwm4.gif !!!!

you can tell for the really obvious ones!!
saddle marking arent always correct, but do work out. i have nevr seen a pure colombian with saddles like an equadorian's saddles- 2 completely different types.

babies are really hard to tell, but when they get older you can see a difference in head shape, and body shape. you must under stand that this does not go for all. in 99 i purchased a a col x guyana female who had the saddle count and venter count of bcc, but look odd color wise- i also saw a few suspect saddles. when i asked to see the parent he confirmed my original thought- he showed me a colombian mother and a guyana father.

look for the obvious stuff first.

i would also familiarize my self with boas by locale, available in books and on line.

Hey cb76,
Thanks for the advice... I love boa Constrictors, but as far as being familiar with the VAST variety of them cwm13.gif, I am a neonate...

cwm15.gifI am reading everything I can get my hands on cwm15.gif...

Thanks ;D

I think T.C. was going to say "over it!"

Just a guess.

I tell by their accents. If they speak portugese they are brazillian. If they speak spanish, it's a bit tougher as they tend to be colombian, but you never know. If they speak spanish with a portugese accent then you have a crossbreed! Vola!

Oh, and if they speak english, it's probably a rosey boa.

Not necessarily. What if it speaks Spanish? English wouldn't really be tell-tale sign of a rosy boa. How do you know it's not from England. I also don't recall there being any boas in england.

Man... Where can I get me one of them fancy talkin' Boas?!?! ;D

In the mean while...this is my pet store Columbian red-tail, no other specifics were given other than she was captive born. I have been told she looks like a cross. What do you think?

i cant see to ood in the pic, is she anerythristic ???

either way, the boa looks good! nice saddling.

looks like its high contrast between colors. it very well could be a locale cross- but i dont thing its a subspecie cross like bci x bcc. looks nothing like occidentalis, longicuada or ortonii- its definitly in the bci.

the only way to know about your boas is to ask, and know where the person got them! that and go collecting them your self.

either way you got a purrdy boa. very clean. i like that look.

Hi Sojourn,
I like how your boa looks. My big girl looks almost exactly her. So is your girl anerythristic? Mine is suppose to be, but I don't know for sure. It's hard to tell on adult snakes sometimes. Also post some close up shots. I love face pics. :D I'll post a picture of my girl when I can get her out of her cage, without getting bit. She's grumpy these days. LOL.

:)Thanks cb76 and Linda :)

:-/ I don't think so.

...Whether or not she is an anery was something I and my wife wondered about for a little while... cwm10.gifI think a lot of pictures of boas for sale claiming to be anery was the main thing that kept us wondering :P...

But if you look REAL CLOSE cwm13.gif you can kinda see something that sorta looks like faint shades and hues of red. LOL...

For example, the LITTLE bit of color on her tail is more of a dull terra cotta, also her face and sides have been washing in with a light pink a little more each shed so far...

We have come to the conclusion that she has a STRONG reduction of red, ALMOST NONE for that matter. cwm13.gif There is some, though. So she is NOT an anerythrystic.

....Maybe more like Hypo-anerythristic cwm11.gif
....We have considered breeding our Jeff Ronne double het for ghost to her in a couple years just to see what would happen cwm4.gif...

... Here is a pic of him...
