A long time ago I read a story in a book about Boas. Has anyone ever read or heard this story? If so, please let me know what book it came from.
A small village, either in Central or South America had an awful problem with rats. Their solution was to import many mongooses to eradicate the rat problem. Unfortunately, though the mongooses ate up the rat population, they also decided that they liked all the farmers small livestock too. The mongooses became more of a problem than the rats they were brought to get rid of. What did these people do with their problem mongooses? They brought in a bunch of fairly large boa constrictors and in no time the mongooses diappeared from the landscape.
It's a true story but I really forgot where I read about it.
