View Full Version : Brazillian Rainbow Boa
This is Goobs better half. I have a question and I was hopeing that someone might beable to help me out. I am not very trusting of snakes(I know I am bad)! There is one snake that we have named Lamia, she is a very sweet 4' Columbian boa. I trust her and love her to death. Well the question is, I have my eye on a Brazillian Rainbow Boa or a yellow Anaconda. But due to my fear of snakes that I dont know I am unsure if I should get one of those snakes or not. Which one if any would you recomend? I do not really enjoy snakes when they are small,I want to get a snake that is large already. Is that a good idea? If I get it small then I am not going to get attatched to it untill it is older and larger. So then it would sorta end up being Goobs snake then mine. HELP I am going nuts here!!!!! cwm24.gif
IMHO anybody who I thinking about ownership of any animal should read about and aquire knowledge about the animal prior to purchase cwm15.gif. If you research both animals then you can make your own decision :).
That said I think both animals are great. Size however may be a deciding factor. Also, they require very different care.

Ok, let me get this straight. You are not very fond of snakes and actually are not very trusting of snakes yet you want to buy a mature or semi mature yellow anaconda? My wife, who fits your description in her feelings about snakes has finally gotten comfy with our little boa. Putting her near a 5 footer would destroy all our progress.
Handling a young giant poses any number of issues. Bill is right when he says care varies for the 2 species you posted about. A yellow ananconda can grow to 10 feet or larger. For a person with little or no experience handling giants, it could cause some problems as the snake matures. I have always thought of 'condas as snakes with a bad attitude too. I would not want to be someone who has a 10 footer with a bad attitude. A bite from a 4 foot boa would be nothing compared to a bite and subsequent hug from a yellow 'conda. My advice to you is to become more familiar with young snakes and read up about what it takes to handle giants. After you've done that, consider what you want to do. The last thing you want to do though is winding up having to rid yourself of an unwanted snake. Good luck. I hope you get a nice snake when the time is right.
Best regards,
Bob
This is Goobs better half again. Thanks for the information as well as input. I Love the way the both of those snakes look but after thinking long and hard about it as well as reading up on some information I found that both are nippy and are very hard to care for. I also thing that the Yellow Anaconda might be too much snake for me. cwm24.gif So I think that I am going to try to find something that is alittle easier to care for and does not take up my whole liveing room. cwm25.gif Well my search is still going on and will probably take me several years till I find that purfect one. I know that not all snakes can be like our Lamia. :'(
This is Goob
I have been trying to talk her into looking at the diferent types of boa that are available. She wants something with color (don't ask), I guess to match her perse. lol
I have been trying to show her the Hoggs, or suri or an Albino
I don't know what she is gonna come up with. I think she has decided on a rosy boa. I kinda like em myself

HI,
there are so many choice in the boa's that are super sweet snakes and don't need a room for a cage.
One of my favorites is the Hoggisland Boa some of the better ones are really colorful and actually change colors depending on mood and time of day.

The anaconda should be only kept by an expert with a room size cage, can you imagien the food requirements the retics and the burms are a handful too
when they are adults. My friends at a pet store are feeding baby pigs to a monster burm that 's only three years old. it was eating three adult rabbits every two to three weeks, that cost money. It takes two to three people to feed her and they have to be real careful not to get in the way when she strikes. Most pythons have teeth that are twice as long as most boa's.I know I have been bitten by a few.
cwm15.gif Be sure you know the species you want study their needs.Temps humidity do you have room for that 4H/5W/12L cage. You'ld need a pond sized water dish for an anaconda so she can soak they seem to like to soak alot. Good Luck Get a sweet hog from Jeff or Clay. Or pastel BCI MAn they are sweet.
they rarely get over 5-6 ft nice sized animal with plenty of color..
There are some beautiful honduran king snake that the most color , I have a plain old east king that I think is beautiful.ANd easy to feed nver bites and loves people
Specially if you have food. heheheh he's actuallytaken a rat pup thawed out of my hand while I was holding him and spent the next ten mins sniffing for another..DOn't try that with a python... s35.gif
