When we first brought Bobo home in February, he was a bit aggressive, hissing and striking 2-3 times at a long stick I was using to get him out of the tank. We were really scared, thinking we were the owners of a biter. Since that day, he has never even coiled near us. We take him out daily for over a half hour, with Ryan and I sharing the handling. I think what really has kept his aggression to a minimum is how we feed him. We used to dangle a mouse in front of him and he struck at it, wrapped a coil around it and he was having his dinner. Now we just deposit the thawed rodent in his tank and he has been casually meeting his meal during the night, not trying to kill it. He just opens his mouth and starts to swallow the meal. His sense of urgency to catch and kill his prey is no longer part of his personality. Having lost a huge part of that wild instinct of urgency, having to hunt down his prey and killing it has really converted him to a very domestic pet. I truly believe if we allowed him to catch a dangling mouse as his way of eating, we would have a more aggressive animal. What are your opinions?
