Two weeks ago we gave Bobo a "toy'. It was the inside of a paper towel roll. He's still only about 28" long so we thought it might be unique for her to go into on occasion. Turns out that it has become her hiding place. She loves to be in there more than any place else and spends days on end in there. Here is the intelligence part.

Last week, on two different occasions, we took her tube out of the tank. Both times were for feeding purposes. When she went back into her tank, she spent a lot of time looking for that tube. She went to the spot where the tube was and she went back and forth along side the tank looking for it. It blew us away. She actually went looking for her tube and remembered what part of tank it was in. We really think that she is smarter than we originally gave her credit for when we first bought her. Have any of you noticed behavior like that in your snakes? It's really bizarre, but it is fun..

I don't personally think that boas are the smartest creatures, but they are thinking. A little change in the enviroment seem to stimulate some movement, gets them sniffing around, and its probably good for them. I know I'd get a little crazy if I sat in the same room all day and night.

i put in a paper towel tube as well with my baby boa. and mine just loved the thing to. i also wanted to share a little something with you on the intelligence thing. about a week ago i removed joey from her cage to put her in her feeding enclosure. she was in her hide box when i got her out so she wasn't quite with it yet when i put her in her feeding tank. she had the end of her tail wrapped around her head when i put her in the tank. so anyway i put her in and put the lid on while i went to prepare her dinner. i glanced back at the cage to see her trying to pull her head free of her tail. now instead of simply just relaxing her tail, she was just pulling like crazy. as a matter of fact she pulled so hard that when she finally got her head free she smacked her little noodle on the side of the cage. s3.gif
she wasn't hurt or anything but boy it sure was funny. cwm2.gif
anyway just thought i'de share.
