What are the differences between the 2 besides scale count and location or whatever?

Once full grown is there a considerable amount of length difference between the 2?

Can the hypo's, anery's, albino's, ghosts, etc...get over 9 feet long as (from what I experience) Columbians?

I may sound stupid for asking but for quite a while I thought that a redtail was a redtail and the only reason for the difference in name (suriname guyana and blah blah blah etc) was strictly because of the location, not a difference in species. I really had to learn a lot from reading up cwm15.gif on various web-sites, (thanks to all that apply!)in order to even know that there was a BCC - BCI.

Thanks,
R~

Hi,
I try to show you sites I consider very useful , there's a site in Germany that has very useful information concerning origins and species. The only negative is He tends to go a little overboard on his concerns about breeding and some feeding issues and he dosen't like heat mats I do use them with thermostats to each their own.
   http://www.boa-constrictors.com/
I learned a lot about the origins of boa's and most of his stock are one or two generations from wild caught.
The pics and history is the best, also review the diet concerns and feeding.I ve added his site to  my favorites, he will respond to E-mail and frequents the Herp shows from time to time in the States. he will also send you updates if you request them by clicking on his guest book and leaving a comment.

Floyd columbians can get larger than 9' I have an albino female that is 9 1/2 ' and just recently saw a couple of females over ten. About the BCI vs BCC it is a subject that I have done a lot of reading on, and the more I find on this subject the more confuseing it becomes everyone has conflicting information. Eventually the differences in scale counts, body shape& size, patterns and color will be written in stone or blood or somthing everyone can agree on!
Good Luck

Thanks Panama~Red....I completely understand how it can be rather confusing trying to learn about the variations between this type of RTB and that one. It seems like as soon as someone gets their first they automatically become a pro at it. My knowledge goes here and there, but the one thing that I am comfortable about stating is that I know my animals. I know how they react to certain prey, temps, humidity and so on. From what I am gathering from various posts and various web-sites is that there is such a large medium to deal with on the BCI's that it seems that a beginner can make a few mistakes here and there and still have an animal that can remain somewhat healthy. (I AM NO PRO!) ~ but it seems that once you get into the BCC's that you have to pay a little bit more attention to detail.
CHANGE SUBJECT~
My 2 Amazon Tree Boas are a pain at times and if you don't give them the atmosphere required to keep them alive they let you know the next time you try to pick them up, (OUCH!)

Anyway, thanks for replying. I'm just trying to figure out what I am getting into because I want to start building up my knowledge of the difference in the species before I go all out and make some costly mistakes.

Again, Thanks! b27.gif

i agree with what was said about bci being more hardy in some ways than bcc.

another example to add is the feeding- bci can be stuffed- literally, bcc's such as the guyana ans surinam cant. they usually regurge

i have also found that when kept at a higher temp and filled with food the production of gasses also play a huge part! the food digests too fast causing alot of gas build up- seen by over bloating! they usually regurge and hblast a serious duece, sometimes catching the keepers in the face.....ask ritchie about that one  b27.gif ;D

there are others such as differing head, body shape, pee pee size and shape, pheromones, etc....lots of differences!

cb76~thanks, but would your feeding input also mean that there would be a considerable amount of difference in weight as well? Because like you said, You can stuff the heck out of a BCI, and my BCC is never given anything that even begins to "buldge" his sides up. And with that, would it also be safe to say that BCC wouldn't get as long as BCI being that their feeding is limited, some what, to the thickness of their body? Or does that not have anything to do with it. How about the length of life span? Some people I have heard say that the more you "stuff" your boas the shorter the life span, the more you stretch it out, the longer the life span. Granted that doesn't mean if you don't feed them that they live forever...I'm just repeating some so called "knowledge" of other keepers from various other places....
Thanks for posting! b27.gif

while bcc's tend to have a softer stomach- they are and do get larger than bci- over a period of time, rather than early like bci's do!

bcc are the huge boas easily attaing 10 feet plus, i have seen plenty of 12 footers and there is a 14 foot peruvian.

i feed my suri and guyana so that there sides stick out a lil' bit. a small bulge.

i feed all of my snakes very well, but i definitly keep my 10 day time span between meals.

power feeding and feeding well are 2 completely different stories! poewr is stuffing the animal and feeding it every few days or when ever it cantake another meal! good feeding is feeding what the animal can actually take- and waiting till the next feeding day to do it again. alot of people mistake the residual "kill mode" after eating as them being still hungry, so they still feed often too inadvertently powerfeeding.

either way- feed your snake well! it will get huge like its supposed to.

i have boas that are definitly over 20 that i have had for yrs, and i have babies that i raised that turned out to be huge adults- all on the same feeding schedule!

but yeah- bcc's do get larger over a period of time.
