I went to the Reptile Expo in White Plains, NY this past weekend. A couple of things were very interesting to me. The amount of attendees was staggering. I have never seen this much interest in reptiles. People of all ages, sexes and color were there. When I was a kid, only teenage boys seemed interested in reptiles. It is truly amazing how much interest people now have in reptiles. Bearded dragons seemed to be the animal of choice there but there were many snakes there too. The thing I do not understand was why there was such a price range when it came to Boas. I saw some Boas priced as low as $40 and some that cost over $500-$1,000. What makes one Boa cost twenty times or more than a $40 Boa? Remember, I am an old timer who used to walk into a pet shop and plunk down $10 for a RTB. But then again gas was only .29 a gallon back then too. LOL

Bob A $40 boa is more than likley an import. You will probably spend more time and money nurseing it back to health than your saving initally. I have bought imported Boas about 10 years ago and I don't have a single one of them today all of my snakes are captive bred. As for the price variations one snake may not be worth more than another Its just what the seller thinks there boas are worth, I think hypos are better looking than albinos but I can still get a hypo cheaper than an albino in most cases. That's just my opinion, I could be wrong.

Yeah prices on all snakes vary due to coloration and pedigree's. I just bought a new green tree pythong for $620, i could have gotten one for 300 anywhere. But i got it from a breeder and I know what it's colors are most likely gonna come out like. Like i said it's all about quality and coloration.
i went to the show too! i live 15 minutes away from there. it is great to see all different types of people going there!
i met and continue to meet alot of good people who care about this!
the 40 dollar boa was likely a colombian of some sort
the rest were likely the b c constrictors! they usually run from $150- 600 depending on beauty!!
every now and then there is a freakin phenominal animal waiting to be seen/ purchased. dig around!!!

i think that alot of those breeders take advantage of people at those reptile shows. but you know, if people will pay it, why not charge it?
