O.k., so I just need to vent.... ;) Since this forum also concerns 'ethics' I will vent here.
I went into a Pet Store recently and my stomach turned. At first I was overjoyed to see so many Reptiles in one place not far from where I live. But as I ventured in for a closer look my joy was turned to horror! ::) I went near a cage of Bearded Dragons and bent down to look inside, but the odor which came up and greeted me almost made me puke! cwm8.gif
The cage hadn't been cleaned in a LONG LONG time. But wishing to visit my favorites, the snakes, I went over and saw more horrors. ::) They had many different snakes; boas, burms, retics, balls, kingsnakes...the usual...but they were not much better off. I saw a beautiful albino burm with the label 'captive born' . As I bent down to take a closer look it didn't appear as an albino...and I saw why- because it was crawling with so many mites that it was actually a darker color than it should be! Examining the other cages I found (without much effort) large ticks, more mites, and snakes that looked under nourished and uncared for :-/ I had a few unpleasant words with the manager, ??? then walked out and shook the dust from my feet :-X I love herps, especially snakes, and it really burns me up to see those types of conditions. We need a rescue right here in the Pet Store! :-X
Sorry, but nothing upsets me more! I wish I could purchase every snake they had just to treat them and give them a decent home ;) Anyway, I needed to get that off my chest.
