Hi, I want to know if the sent of an elm is dangerous for our boas? I found a branch of elm and I want to put it in my vivarium but it sent a little bit. I know that some kind of wood is not good for them like cedar that's why I ask. :'(

Thank you

I would try not to put any thing in your boas cage if its been out side. You really dont know whats been on it. I mean I will admit that I have found some really nice branches my self that I have striped the bark off and sprayed it with provent a mite. I sprayed it twice into days. And let it sit. I have found mites, ticks and spiders. I would just be cautious. You never know whats hiding in spots that you can just not reach. :)
About cedar is because when they grind it up to produce bedding it realeases a cemical and smell that can be harmful to diffrent animals and reptiles.

Me I put the branch 1 hour in salt water, and after this, I put it in the oven at 500 F for about an hour and a half. And before this, I take off all the bark on. My male boa have one since a long time ago and it's ok but it's not the same kind of wood I think. That's why I ask.

Thank for the respond reply!!! :P

When adding natural"hard wood" into a cage, one needs to wrap it in a plastic trash bag and then freeze it for several days.
It will kill off anything living in the nooks and crannies(even larve)
Any type of aromatic wood(pine, cedar etc.) should be avoided, its toxic to BCI/BCC
Also never soak wood in a bleach solution,if you do its ruined for cage decore. Bleach "never completely dilutes"although some people do it DONT !
