Has anyone here ever flown to a reptile show and avoided shipping costs by taking animals home on the plane? I have never done it, but it would seem a little scary to do that now after all the airport restrictions and thorough searches.
Up here in the northwest, I have never been able to hit any of the BIG shows. One day I will though, and I imagine I'll try bringing animals on the plane with me.

I got a friend who took his rollerblades with him on the plane and put his baby redtail in a sock, in the blade and made it from coast to coast!

I would contact and ask about shipping the animal along with you as baggage.. People bring dogs and cats cross country with them all the time.. Might not be as much of a pain as you imagine.

If I were to do it, baggy pants and put it in the front pocket!
The gal running the x-ray will want to take you home.

I don't know if 9/11 has changed the policy on animals on planes, but it used to be that as long as the animal, repitile or whatever, was secure in some type of enclosure or bag and could not escape it was perfectly fine to take on a plane. I know I've taken many iguanas on airlines in the past, it's funny seeing a big 5ft iguana skeleton come up on the x-ray machine. Ask your airline and see what they say now. I don't know how many snakes you're talking about taking, but if you're just going to a show to pic up 2 or 3 snakes I would think you could fly home with them on a plane as long as you had them in a nice bag and out of site from the passengers. Then again, maybe this rule is long gone on airlines, seems like they just keep going further and further down hill.

I remeber reading that after 9/11 it had to be a very special case and cute and fuzzy. but I don't rember where I read that. I thought it was on delta's website though.

I imagine if it were a small snake you could put it in your pocket?
