I have a few questions hopefully someone can help me with ...First of alll I rescued a fairly lagre guyanan redtail from a pet store the other day...and to put it mildly it is VERY sick,,,,bad RI possibly pneumonia VERY bad mouth rot extremly dehydrated and VERY VERY skinny...Im talking about a snake close to 7 feet that barely weighs 4 pounds...well I actually gave teh guy what he paid for the snake because he was trying to treat the animal but just wasnt going abouit it the right way at all...I couldnt stand to see how it was being kept and I sure couldnt let it die...oh well back to the point...I have the mouth rot and the RI under control and it is responding well to antibiotics but what I was wondering is if anyone knows of any kind of Food/Vitamin supplements I can give this poor guy until I can hopefully get him eating again???

any help here would be GREATLY appreciated...

Pedialyte diluted in water is good for that... Get a feeding tube and run it down to about where it's stomach ought to be. Then you kindof... Inject the pedialyte in the tube... If you have never done this, it might be a good Idea to get a good vet or experienced herper to show you how.

I agree Morti,

Also the original Gatorade is used in the same way. But please do not neglect the option to get the boa to a vet as soon as possible. Bad RI can be fatal, and some medication may be necessary to help this guy pull through.

Good Luck and keep us posted.

I have used a 50-50 mixture of chicken baby food and wipping cream through a tube as already discribed in the other post.. I had a similar problem last year with a male boa. This mix pulled him through and put weight on him. The problem with some medication is that it reduces appitite and some animals are not heavy enought to waite it out. He is alive and well today, and just finished mating with one of my females.
