This morning I got out a frozen rat for my baby girl Angelica, and put it in a ZipLoc bag in a bowl warm water to defrost. Once it was ready, I took the rat (still in bag) into the snake room and picked up Angelica in order to put her in her feeding enclosure.
That's when I noticed her eyes had started to turn milky white. Doh! Looks like feeding is going to have to wait for a little while.
So the lesson I learned: Next time, I'll look at the snake BEFORE I defrost the rat!!! :)

In general, when they start blueing (that's what I call it anyway since they seem to get a blue-ish cast to them) they don't want to eat. However, at least for my lovely slitheries, about half the time they'll still go for the food. A 50:50 shot is pretty good if they don't eat regularly or it's already thawed and ready to go. Ya can always refreeze it and thaw it out again later. (After the second thaw, if it isn't eaten, I'd reccomend trashing it...the food get's "odd" if it's frozen and thawed 3 or 4 times.)
Oh, great place to purchase frozen feeders cheap...Perfect Pets (http://www.perfectpet.net/index.html). Their jumbo rats are 1.75 ea!!! They feed lab chow and use CO2 to kill the rats. Much much cheaper then any other place I've found to order from.
Now then...go cuddle with a snake!!

Thanks for the reply...I bet my girl would've gone for the rat if I'd offered it, but I decided to err on the part of caution and not offer it at all. I just tossed the rat because I didn't feel comfortable with the idea of thawing/freezing/thawing...I dunno just me I guess.
Today her eyes are completely milked-out and she's just kicking back in her favorite corner and taking it easy. I'm misting two to three times a day and hoping for a perfect shed!
