Hey guys/girls Bone here,

I'm not real fluent with Peruvians. Is there a such thing as too much handling for these guys? I'm trying to establish a trust with my guy but doesn't seem to be coming around. I can get him out of his cage without too big of a problem, but he takes flight the entire time that I have him. Then after about 5 ot 6 minutes he has his tongue extended for prolonged periods like there will be a strike coming soon. So when this continues, I get him back to his cage. I try to handle him about 3 times a week. I guess my question is, do these guys take a good while to tame done or are these guys a nervous species? Just wanting to know. I would hate to keep him stresed out.

Thanks,
Bone

:P I would have tried to help ya but you are a Raider fan so sorry.lol.jk. KC CHIEFS ALL THE WAY!!! :'(

as far as handling goes, I would say next time you get him out just hang on to him for about half an hour, like sit down and watch some tv while you are holding him so your attention is not on him fully, it might help him calm down if you do not focus fully on him. I know that my more nervous snakes seem to be calmer quicker if I just get them out and handle them while watching some TV, rather than paying total attention to them. Hope this helps Later Randy T.

Good tip, Randy. To answer your other question, you probably can handle a snake too much (to the point where it is causing a lot of undue stress to the animal) but 3x per week should be fine. The key to "taming" is persistence. Just keep on going with your handling sessions and eventually the snake will probably calm down.
