I've just bought a house with a very large florida room. This is where I'm planning to keep my boas. I've measured the temps and humidity in there the last 3 days. The humidity is great down here in Florida but my thermometer showed a high of 95 on Tuesday, 96 on Wednesday, and 94 today. Little high for a boa but is it too hot?? If so then maybe someone in Florida or anywhere else could give me some ideas how to cool it down in there a little. Bear in mind this is only a florida room. It has windows but they're pretty thin. It's not really gonna be efficient to pump A/C out there plus then I'd lose my humidity. I've got the windows open with some fans going to move some air around but it doesn't seem to be helping. Any ideas would be helpful. Thanks. -Chris
Hi,
just be sure it dosen't spike on really hot day's,
i had a cage in my reptile room ambients in teh room where around 72 degrees , and I opened the blinds in a small window and the temps shot up 20 degrees in the cage the light shined in about 20 mins ::) I would hate to think about the sun shining in a cage in a FLA room it may hit 140 in about 20 mins.. ever get in your car its a lot like a reptiles cage and you know how hot it can get....
I would try and find a temp monitor that records high and low temps for at least 24 hours all my walmart thermometers do this put the cage where you think you want it and check that temp history.
And when winter comes even in fla you'll be having some problems in that fla room. I wish you luck... its gonna be tricky to keep them temps stable Iam a feard..

Thanks Doug. The thermometer records highs and lows for a week I think. I reset it everyday so I'm not sure but I do know that those are the highest it gets. As far as heating in the winter that won't be a problem. Each cage has plenty of heat on a thermostat so I'm good there. The windows are tinted too so that helps. They're open about 8 inches on the top and 3 at the bottom which leaves about 3 feet tinted. I'll keep an eye on the temps and hope for the best. Thanks again. -Chris

Be very carefull - don't just 'hope for the best' !
I have a friend in Florida who uses his garage for his boas... has the same heat problems as you do.. now he THOUGHT that these temps were great! meanwhile, he lost a 7' gravid Hogg Island and produced bci slugs and premies 3 years in a row until someone told him he had to lower his temps !!! and they were only in the high 80's to occasional low 90's... not mid 90's like you are experiencing!
I'd find a way to insulate the room and cool it with a/c. I would NOT take the chance.
just my $.02
