I just wanted to share this because I know what a problem mites can be. That is when my boas got them, I battled with them for 8 months trying differant products and differant methods but nothing worked. :-/ I was just about to pull my hair out when I gave this method a try.First ZOO MED makes a great product called {MITE OFF} It's the best product on the market. It's so safe you can spray it into your snakes face and even into there eyes which is great because mites like to hang out there. Now as far as the encloser goes the rule of thumb is keep it basic. Take out everything. All hiding boxes, branches, vines, rocks, EVERYTHING. Either soak them in beach water for a couple of days and rinse them off well and set them aside or throw them away. Remove all bedding. Wash down the encloser with 1gal. of hot water and 1/4 cup bleach. Make sure you wipe down the whole encloser making sure you get all the corners well.Next wipe down the whole encloser with fresh water to remove the bleach residue and cut down on the bleach oder. Then wipe dry. For bedding use newspaper.Add the water dish on the cool side and on the warm side add 3x3 square of no pest strip inside a plastic container with holes drilled in it.Next treat the boa with MITE OFF making sure you get it covered for nose to tail. You can treat your snake every 3 days with MITE OFF so I would also wipe down the encloser as said to do so above and add clean newpaper every 3 days. By the 4th treatment or 12th day the mites should be gone. :'(Now my boa encloser is a 55 gal.glass aquarium so I'm sure this method will work with all glass or plastic snake enclosers.I'm not sure if it will work as well if your snake encloser is made out of plywood. If you try this method with a wooden encloser and after the 4th treatment you still have mites :-/ you may need to move your snakes to a glass or plastic encloser for treatment. I'm really not sure how you would get rid of the mites from a wooden encloser? Well there it is.This worked for me when nothing else would. So give it a try and good luck.

Glad to hear you eradicated the mites but, I had used the mite off at the store and was really unhappy with the results. Think I was better off using plain water. I really thought that product was :-X. I have used the provent a mite and a few other products at the shop with great results. Some of the old timer tricks still work like a champ. Just my 2 cents on that product. ;D

BTW, thats alot of bleach to a gal of water. Most people would do like a capfull or so. In food service applications you only need 3 or 4 drops to a quart of water for it to sanitize, and sometimes that's too strong by the inspectors tests. Food for thought. Pardon the pun. ;D

Mite off is awsome I have been using it for about 8 months now. I still use Provent-a-mite inside the cage just as a percaution. I also use snake oil which works well also. Put all thoughs three together and your unbeatable!! :'(

Right off the bat...I wanna say I'm not trying to be a smart :-X. But if you have been using them for ??? how many months...how good are they really.??? I have not had mites in 4years......knock..knock. How can you say they are good products? I kinda find that hard to believe. I worked in a PETSTORE for 10 years and all the good products that worked the EPA pulled. :-[

I just wanted to add. I know 1/4 cup of bleach to a gallon of hot water ::) is a bit strong. However it's not just to sanitize the encloser but to kill any mites or mite eggs in the encloser. That is also why you should wipe down the encloser again with fresh water. Just for every day cleaning I never mix water and bleach that strong. As far as the product MITE OFF by ZOO MED goes..... All I can say is when used with the other steps of this method it worked great for me. :'( Mites are such a tuff problem :-/ you have to wage war on them. If you only treat your snake but not it's living encloser I don't think any product would work.

I only use these items once a month. I work at a petstore and when we get a new "shipment" of reptiles in they always go to my house first so that they are in good health befor going in to new homes. Scince we manly get in WC baby balls and CB red tail babys I still use mite off and the rest of the products. I havent had a proble with mites in my personal collection scence I got the products 8 months ago. So yeah I would say they work very good. Why go out and get the products off the internet and pay shipping and all that fun stuff when you can go to your local Kahoots (;p) petstore and get the other products which work great.

Well some of us think ZOO MED make alot of great products. Besides MITE OFF I use ZOO MED ceramic heat emitters, under tank heaters, remote sensor thermostats, rheostats, and basking lights and I'm very happy with all of these products. ;D Infact ZOO MED is one of my favorite brands of reptile products. :'(

Glad you like their stuff !
But when better quality can be had for less most folks get their monies worth the first go round.
Hang around the Herp World awhile and you`ll get the same results as everyone many years before ya.
Hope your snakes live thru it ??

Sad,but true !

I bought "Snake Oil" some time ago at LLLreptile. I had a few inported baby balls that had some bad sheds going on and they were having respratory problems so I didnt want to take the chance and soak them. "Snake Oil" is a product that you might beable to specile order if you know were to look. Its 100% safe and it can be digested.

Its made by nature zone and its called Benson and sons snake oil and reptile polish.

Good luck trying to find it though.
