View Full Version : Question about injecting Tylosin.

Hi folks~
I recently bought a 7 foot Columbian female. A couple of days ago I noticed some fluid coming out of her nose. She ate a 2lb. rabbit last night, and now today she's gaping a little. My temps are good (80 on the cool end, 92 on the warm) It took me about 3 days to get the temps dialed in. That combined with the cool 2 1/2 hour car ride is what did it I think. Also, the girl I bought her from said she had an R.I a couple of years ago that was treated. Maybe it's been lingering?
I ordered some Tylosin 200 from here: http://www.pbsanimalhealth.com/cgi-local/SoftCart.exe/injectables/tylosin200.html?E+scstore
I also bought some 23 guage syringes from the pharmacy. They didn't have 25 guage. I'm thinking they should be large enough, but don't know for sure.

My main question is this. Will I be able to quietly, gently inject her without her noticing too much? Or, should I anticipate a struggle, and take appropriate measures?
If someone who's had experience with this would share I would greatly appreciate it.

Thanks!

Jason

Jason,
It would probably be a good idea to have a helper if you are injecting a 7' boa. I have used Tylan on a smaller boa with NO problem, but if a 7 footer wants to get a little twitchy a helper would be nice.

Did you have to use an antibiotic?

no i brought her back to the breeder he wanted to see her he checked her mouth he said she had fluid but he said not so bad that she would need antibiotics.he said heat her up bit drop humidity a bit and soak her twice a day for dehydration.so i did and after like a week i saw improvement then after 2 or 3 weeks she was over it.He wanted to hold off on the antibiotics unless she got worse.
