I was wondering at what weight is good and healthy for a breedable female boa? This will be her first time breeding. Should it be 20 lbs? 25 lbs? Can it be lower than that? THanks.

hi!
i would stay as heavy as possible. people do breed boas while young or at a light weight, but they have smaller litters (if any), higher slug count, and they take off years the mamma's life. people dont breed with 5 yr old kids right!
i lost an entire litter 2 yrs abo cuz the mom was not at optimal weight. she dropped too early and none of the lil guys made. the vet and i came up with that conclusion because she was 200% healthy, just not big enough.
i would say 25 pounds and up (big body girth!!!)

I am not worried about the female making the weight but what are some good food items to put the weight on her. I feed her chicks and rats now. How are guinea pigs? How are rabbits? Which one would be better? Could I just stick with the chicks and rats and that would put the weight on her?

8) I have been told... (no first hand experience) that chickens are a real good food for putting on some extra weight before breeding, because they have a higher fat content than rats.. Id imagine tho, that if you stuff her full of rats it'd do just as good.. Personally, Im just going to feed mine some extra rats..
