I posted a little of this under my question in the Caging Questions and Comments section, let me bring this point up here.
I recently acquired a pair of 9 year old Kahl produced 8'+ 40 pound + Peruvian Redtails.
Yes, they are big and FAT and HEAVY! ::)
I was told that they were never bred.
I was also told that they developed some 'physical conditions' because of this, which I have also seen and confirmed.
The female (don't remember if the male has it too) has a crease on her underside, around the lung area. The crease is dead center and about 1 foot long or more.
Someone, who was somewhat experienced, told the person I acquired these from, who was more inexperienced, that this occurred for one reason or another because she was not bred.
Does this even make sense?
Well, the male also has something weird - he has 'wrinkles' on his tail.
If I remember correctly, I MAY have seen this on one or more of Jeff's huge Peruvian bcc in one of his first video's several years ago. If I am incorrect, my apologies.
Now I don't see how these 'defects' can be a good thing but am deffinately worried if they are a bad thing.
I purchased these boas to breed them, not to take up half my apartment so I can shovel food in to them all day! Hope that's not how this turns out!!! :-/ :-X :-/
BESIDES these 'defects', or visual impairments.., do you think they are TOO OLD to breed or won't because they haven't bred in their 9 years??
Could the female still ovulate normally? and maybe more importantly, will the male be able tp produce sperm and copulate and 'deliver the package' ? lol
Well I am hoping to produce from this pair next year.
Any and all responses and comment will be appreciated!
Thanks all - take care, Joe Rollo
