I have two males that are in the 3-3.5ft range and will be in the 3.5-4ft range for breeding this september. Do you think I'll have a problem getting them to court/copulate the female? I've never used a male under 5 foot before. I know using small males has been done before, but is it difficult to get them breeding? Thanks.

How old are the boas? I doubt that they would breed if they aren't AT LEAST 18 months. (2 years is a safer bet) If they are, give it a shot, although you'll really have to "ask" them!

I would have to agree. If he's at least two years old. He should do fine. My first male was only about 4 feet but he was about 30 months old. Unlesds you plan on getting a different male if he can't/won't then give it a try.

They are both roughly 15 months old and by the time I place them with the females, they will be 18-19 months old. I know they can breed at this age and length, but is it more difficult to get them to breed than larger males? That is my main question.

I, along with some other breeders, have found younger males to be more active, prolific breeders.
Don't get me wrong, when you find that one great male that could work over 3, 4 girls a season, you can't get much better than that...
but if I were to bring 2 new males into the place and one is 2 years old and the other 7 years old, I would expect the 2 year old to 'get on to it' much quicker and more readily than the older male.
just my $.02

Last year I had to go through 5 breeder males...
I had 1 unproven male of 4', 4 more males all about 7-8 feet long.
Turns out the only one to do the job, twice, was one of the larger males.. a 7 footer. that was a bit strange..
the others didn't seem interested..
one became a bit more interested after introducing another male while he was still there..

a few times in the past when I was tight for space I would temporarily house 2 snakes together, say young adults..3 feet or so..
lots of times i'd go to seperate them a few days later and find the male wrapped around the female... horny little devils!

trt it out, if you don't have another male to breed to her, than you won't lose out if he doesn't do the job.

thanks

Thanks for all the support and info guys; it helps when we all put our $.02 in  :-[ ! I project that my males will be a tad over 3.5ft when I attempt to breed them. I sure hope they are interested, otherwise I'll have to move on to plan B...Hummm, I guess I should formulate a plan B before depending on it huh? Oh well, it is all up to the good Lord now. Thanks again guys and good luck with your breedings.  :'(

The ghost is great man; I really appreciate him. He eats like a pig and will certainly be able to breed my anery female this fall. I can't wait. A litter of that magnitude will have to be posted on none other than....."The Tank." But anyway, thanks for asking and I'll keep you informed on his progress and breeding history.
