i was just wondering when breeding for snow boas what would be the best ''formula'' to make this happen? s16.gifwould it be best to get a albino female and then a anery male or the other way around a anery female and albino male? or does or dosent it matter at all? i am just curious.
(i plan on going forth on a snow boa project in the near future)

Go get double hets. You will only produce double hets with albinos and anerys, so why not skip ahead and get double hets or an albino het snow or anery het snow. These are expensive but if you want snows, it isn't going to be cheap. The male/female thing doesn't matter as long as each of them has both genes.

Go to Peter Kahls website and look at potential offspring. He brakes down all possible combos for you! :'(

I am planning on producing snow boas also. I already have 2 anery het for snow females and will get my male albino het for snow wheni get the money. All are from Pete Kahl. He has amazing animals and I am very happy with them. Good Luck.

The "best" combo for producing snows is to mate an Albino het for Anery with an Anery het for Albino. This would give:
25% Snow
25%Albinos Het for Anery
25%Anerys Het for Albino
25%Double Hets

Of course, getting these will cost you a lot more than a pair of Double Hets......

Hey herperccc, why make it so difficult...Just pony up 10-12K...for a pair of snows...Spend the next 3 years or so,watching them every free moment, saying grow! grow! grow!..Breed them..and bingo..a snow litter!! simple huh! LOL

I'm actually working with the snow boa project this year for the first time.  I have 1.1 dh snows and I will try to produce some little white beauties this season.  I recommend getting a pair of double hets that are sub-adults, but that have FULL DOCUMENTATION! This is the cheapest and best way to go for snows. Hope it works out for you.

Well, I WOULD, but I wouldn't want to torture you any more with my animals, LOL :'(  That and I already have a pair of Double Hets! ;D

DblHet,

The Dh Snow male is doing great.  He was eating like a pig and then just stopped because he is going into shed.  I sure hope he sheds soon because I want to get about another 9-10 inches on him by fall.  But I'm fattening up my Dh Snow female for him. At a little over 3ft now, he should be ready to go. I'll keep you posted!

Out of 16 you should get:

1 Snow
3 albinos 66% het. Snow
3 Anerys 66% het. Snow
9 66% Dh Snow Boas

Hope that helps!

Not to be anal or anything, but the normals from this cross will actually be "44%" possible DHs. (4 out of nine are expected DHs). Just thought you'd like to know! ;D

I recently aquired an adult anery het snow male and 2 dbl het adult snow females. What would the expected outcome be from them assuming all goes well?

Here you go shawn. This is what I came up with. For every 16 boas you should get:

-2 Snows
-6 Anerys (all 66% poss het for snow)
-2 Albinos 100% Het for snow
-6 Normals (all 66% possible DH's)

Good luck!

what exactly does double het mean?

Jon-e-Boy

"Double het" means the carrier of "two" genes. "Het" means the carrier of only one gene. The word "het" o "heterozygous" means that an animal does not show the gene, but carries it in his genetics. The gene will only appear in the snakes offspring.
