When an albino is breed to a Ronne line pastel all babies will be het albino. Is a portion or all pastel as well? Is is recessive? dominant? any help would be greatly appreciated.
thanks
charlie
The pastel gene is not technically genetic, it is a selectively bred trait, breeding low black, high color animals to each other and improving on it each generation. The work involved in creating and producing these animals was enormous, making these animals worth more. A pastel bred to a normal or an albino would possibly make some pastels but nothing is certain. If you wanted to produce pastel het albinos, I would breed a coral phase albino, which I believe are pastels, to a pastel. I believe you would have a good chance then. I hope I have not been too confusing,

The pastel gene is tricky, but in some instances it is genetic and in some cases it is just a phenotype, like looking like one or both of your parents. His line has been refined to exhibit as much of the pastel trait as possible.
