Hello, I have a female Columbian bci that was acting rather strange last night...
She's a bit over 8 feet long and produced for me 5/21 - she gave 37 live, 11 slugs, 2 stillborn, 1 premie - not bad!
Well, I fed her Sunday night, just a jumbo f/t rat, then threw in an extra on Monday night - ate with no problem.
She became a little active after Monday nights 'snack' (she still needs to put the weight back on).
So I wake up at about 2am and smell the poo, just some normal, big ol poo... a little loose I might add... (her cage was cleaned out Saturday -they wait for you to clean the cage before poo'ing, in case you didn't know...lol)
So I walk in to the snake room and she was extremely active! Looked like she was 'slithering' trying to get somewhere, but not really moving..... picture a human jogging in place... now the snake version..lol
Then it looked like she was rubbing herself on her poo... but that's just because she was so close to it..
upon closer inspection and further observation, the only logical explanation I can possibly conceive is that she was trying to 'push' out some old/retained slugs. She was doing that thing where her body kind of kinks up and looks like she is literally trying to push something out... continuing the motion with her body until it reached down to the tail, which also moved strangely, almost like if just about to pee or poo. ( not the unusual yet occasional tail wagging/luring)
I did leave her light on that night to remind me to change something or other in the cage, and after I turned it off she settled down very little, but very quickly.
Keep in mind, before this 'dance', she pee'd, then poo'd, then pee'd again (over a 2 day span) almost completely ruling that out as a possible explanation.
Any ideas?
I was thinking some of you more 'mature' boa breeders would be able to tell me a thing or two...
school me, if you will..
hope to hear from you all soon!
guess i'll find out tomorrow... still at work from 8am this morning..( 1:31am) :-/ :o :-/
