I was reading a older post on here about sexing that recomended going to this page of probing info

http://www.pythons.com/probing.html

what confused me is that I just had my boa sexed the other day so I could buy it a mate. They said it was a male. I watched them probe the snake and the probe barely went in onl like 3 scales. They said the less it goes in its a male if it goes 7-8 scales deep its a female.

Well on this page above it says  that 3 scales deep would be a female and deeper would be a male?

Is this a typo or is it different with pythons???

Im wondering now if I have 2 fewmales...lol please help

The website is correct, and the people who probed your snake are not. As the site says, males will probe to a deeper scale count, as the probe is entering an inverted hemipene. Females obvioulsy don't have them, (they do have shallow musk glands), so they don't probe as deeply. This holds true for both Boas and Pythons.

I would have a serious talk w/ whoever probed your snake, and would also guess that you do indeed have 2 females. Good luck.

Yup. That's how it is. Deeper for the males, less for the females so you probably still need to get a male. Unless of course it was the same people who probed both snakes. Then you may be in luck. -Chris

Well I just drove 15 miles to the Herp Hobby Shop in oldsmar florida and they sexed my baby for free and confirmed that indeed she is a she. So now I have 2 females ;)

But on a good note. I never been to this place before and I wish I had. Man they have a awesome collection of snakes. Boas and Pythons including some morphs.

They must have over 100 snakes all in professional quality cages. All clean and heated properly. It was a dream shop for me!!!!

If anyone is in the Tampa Bay area you have to check them out. Im not sure if they ship or not.

They didnt ask me to pimp their shop but after seeing the dedication to herpetology and basically Boas in general I have to do everyone the favor and let you know about them. They were class A and very knowledgable.

Hey, could you check that address again. I went to mapquest to look it up and it can't find it. I thought maybe there was a typo or something. If that's correct then I'll just call them. Thanks. -Chris

Well GOOD news:)

The store I bought the female from stood true to there 30 day gaurentee and picked up the snake and gave me a refund.

I wasnt going to get another snake but I decided to take another trip up to the HERP shop and I fell in love with a 5 foot male.

He was sooooo clean and has pink cheeks and instead of red spots on his tail he has bright orange ;D All for 150.00$ They have so many clean snakes to choose from.

If its not too far I would definatly check them out. If I were you I would take mc Mullen booth rd to tampa rd. Its the light at oldsmar flee market (race track road). Make a left and go to the next light (douglass rd) then another left and about 3/10ths of a mile on your left hand side kinda hidden behind a small tree there is a red and whit reptile sign and its behind some warehouses.

They have this little female that has this proven genetic trait. I forget the name of it but instead of solid marks on the sadles it looks like almost a spider web, for 220.00. If she still there in a month or two im gonna get her!

they have alot of boas (large) around the 200.00 range all of them look very clean!!!

My wife's brother lives in port richey he has a nice yellow anaconda on his property. I wish I lived up there you can get alot of land for cheap!!! Man he has so many kewl animals but he has the space! But I have a good job with Pinellas county :'(

As soon as I get a decent digital camera I will take some pics of my new baby might name him He Man...lol Like a new father.

Hey techbota I'll agree with you, herp hobby shop is really nice. I've been there before. Lots of colubirds(sp?). Hard to find though, took me two tries and then I drove down that street like four times before I saw it hidden in the back.

We should keep a list of folks or start a yahoo group that are in the area and we could keep up to date on any up and coming herp shows or what not. I wonder how many others from this board are in the area.

As for the herp hobby shop they said they would let me volunteer cleaning cages and in return they would teach me how to pop baby snakes :) Something I would very much like to learn.
