View Full Version : Peruvian Albino?
Is there such a creature as an albino peruvian? If so, where might I be able to find one? I'd like to have a friend for my columbian, perhaps not necessarily a mate though. Any information is welcome.

I'm sure there is such a thing as a peruvian albino. In almost every animal species the mutation of albinism is present. Breeders of boa, pythons, etc. have taken the trait and bred it specifically for its beauty and for at least a while its rarity. I wouldn't see why there isn't a peruvian albino out there. I have seen surinames that are albino.

The chances an albino Peruvian are currently in captivity are probably less then 5-10% (but more then likely one will pop up in the future) The albino suriname didn't show up in a keepers collection until the last few years. I would imagine if one was currently in someones collection they would show it off as much as possible or offer it up for sale like the suriname had been for the huge amount it sold for. (although someone could have one or more, and be working on making hets available for sale before unveiling it to the puplic.

The odds of one being born in the wild I think are about one in ten thousand, but their chances of survival for any period of time are slim to none. This is because they would stick out like a sore thumb to any and all predators, as well as prey.
One's only chance of survival would be if it were collected for sale into the pet trade, and managed to survive its way into the hands of someone who would care for it properly.
If a Peruvian albino boa were to emerge, it would demand a very large pricetag. The first Suri albino went for approximately 35,000 dollars. And the first hets to come from breeding it, will probably go for upwards of 10 G's plus.
So to paraphrase....
There is not one in existence at the moment that I know of. But eventually, I am sure there will be. Just be sure you've got room in your budget for a second mortgage on your house if you really want one.
Cause it's gonna cost ya. :'(

Not to change the subject, but I was talking to a breeder of red ear slider turtles a couple of months back, and we got on the subject of albino's. I said the same thing you did Jesse about them sticking out like a sore thumb. And the gentleman I was talking too said “you would be surprised. Alot of the albino, or white (cant spell leustistic..lol) morphs are found as sub adults and adults in many different species of animals". He said "that he thought that most animals interpret animals with bright colors as being poisonous"
