I have a female that has been eating like a pig for the month or so, then the last two weeks nothing. A friend says it sounds like she is going into cycle, so why not put your male in with her. So I put my very small Hypo male in with her. She was all over him. She was rubbing on him, twitching her spurs on him and rubbing her head on his and flicking him with her tougne and he was loving it. Well, I told my friend what was going on, he said that, that is all backwards, that the male does that to the female and that was I sure she was a she. Well she has been probed twice and both times the probe didn't hardly go in, so she was a she. I am wondering if anyone else has had an aggressive female like this. She has never bred before, and she is only 3 years old, a little less, and only about 6 ft long, going on top of a 3.5 - 4 ft. hypo male. :-/

If you ask me, your female is a male. Try to probe with a thinner probe and you will see. And probe both sides! Sometimes the hemipenes are filled with dried sperm.

This snake has had two probes done by two different people and on both sides, it was an issue of making sure she was a she.

It sounds Like your female is a male to me also. I have seen a female smell a male with a little intrest, but your description is textbook male courting behavior. That boa could hurt your small hypo, some times combat and courting can look identical. At best a female will put up with a males courting, usually acting irritated. Try the boa on another female and see if the same thing happens. Females don't (court) other females.

I agree with Panama...

Sounds like your female is a male to me as well.

Good luck

Sounds like your female is a male to me as well...... and sorta like your male is a female. Interesting to say the least.... especially if both are what they are supposed to be. ;D

She was rubbing on him, twitching her spurs on him and rubbing her head on his

These are clear signs of the snake being a male. In particular the spurs. Males have slightly larger spurs usually (Almost always), this is because they use them to stimulate female snakes for copulation.

*note* This does not mean it is definately a male, but it sure looks that way....

I put another female in the cage with the she? boa, and she/he, whatever it is has no interest in the female. I do know for sure that this latest intro into the cage was a she. So, after about an hour, I removed the female, and put the hypo male back, and sure enough they started going at it. There was absolutely no fighting going on it was definitely courting. both snakes were into it. both were rubbing each othe and the hypo was also spurring the larger female. Now I either have a very aggressive female or a couple of queer snakes.

I have 14 boas presently, and I can't see a spur on any of the females I've got.   I hate to say that your (female) isn't female but I've never seen a female do much more than lay their and tolerate a male's courting or maybe lift her tail.   I think some pics are in order.

Now I either have a very aggressive female or a couple of queer snakes.

I'm sorry, I laughed so hard when I read that I hurt myself.

I've worked in a lab with 1200+ snakes. The male in most species does the courting. Plus the 100's of snakes I've probed the females have little to no spurs. Now I have owned a male BCI that would court another male BCI. He would also try to court my arm when I had to clean the cages. We named him Romeo.

No Ratman, I gave my brother his digital camera back and I don't have one yet. But I have come to the realization that She is a he, and he is a she. I have ordered a probe kit, but based on a lot of expert opinions, I have to believe that I was sold an animal that was not what I paid for. I did pay a large sum of money for what was supposed to be a female, and is not. The individual who sold her to me basically said, Well, stuff happens. Sorry! I am not really happy about it, cause it was the onley snake of breeding age, and now I have to go out and buy a female. From now on, I check them before the sale is complete.
