What's the best part about breeding boas?

I think the best part about breeding boas is having your personal choice of the pick or picks of the litter. That is the part I look forward to the most. Looking for the oddities in the litter to try to prove them genetic. But my favorite is picking out the animal with the cleanest pattern and the most outstanding colors! Speaking from the only tiny bit of experience I have....

Being amazed at how it all happens, and how the rico suave' male works those spurs and knows just what to do.... being blessed with witnessing the pre-ov. twist, swell, and then ovulation..... twice.

And then....

The anticipation..... not knowing or being sure.... the butterflies.... hovering over the female(actually the trying not to)... being nervous, biting nails..... and did I mention the not knowing or being sure?.....

...She's going into her post ovulation shed right now...

So far, these are my favorite parts of breeding boas. ;D

For me it is a feeling of accomplishent, sort of a new plateu in herp parenthood, seeing your babies make new babies.

You're not the only one jealous of his collection....Jesse is by far one of the best collectors around. He only picks up top of the line animals......I mean the colors in his stock are unimaginable to those you haven't seen some of his animals.

I remember the first year that I bred morphs and produced boas. Man that was cool. I woke up late one morning around 11am.....I keep sheets over my cages at night so to mimic a "pitch black" natural environment. When I lifted the sheet off of one of my females cages, I couldn't believe my eyes AN ENTIRE MASS OF BABIES! I didn't even know for sure if she was pregnant. It was a hypo breeding, so I got some nice hypos out of her. Very, Very cool and I will always remember that feeling. However, it never feels any different each year, that is the best part. It feels just as good as the first time. Yes, we are still talking about boas! lol.

All I've ever seen is the little heads poking from the eggs, the curious creatures looking out and their little tongues flicking. That is my favorite part of breeding pythons and colubrids. My boa is gravid and I don't know what favorite part is yet, but if I don't miss to much of the birthing process I can't wait to see my female pushing around the babies to get them moving. A live birth seems so exciting, I cant wait...

The quivering with anticipation is a nerve bender for sure !
Getting to pick is 1 of the 2 best things .
Watching the birth is THE best . ;D
And the best of the best is proving/disproving out pos hets !
This makes the aforementioned quivering with anticipation even more intense !
It's the same with breeding new animals together : how are these Ronne pastels going to look when bred to my coral ... or these Ronne pastel x EBV red group bred to one of my sunglows ... or my harlequin salmon bred to one of my striped albinos ... WOO-HOO !

I was thinking the best part about breeding is watching boas do the dirty deed, it can really turn you on. ;D  

However, I would agree with having the pick of the litter and being able to slap a little change in your pocket after selling the babies to the pet store.

i'll tell ya, for me, there is just nothing like walking in, looking in and finding/seeing that big pile of Goo next to your huge exhausted female.
Like Christmas as a kid, like a kid in a candy store, like a pig in sh*t...
so many more ways to describe that feeling that may come close, but not close enough!

Removing them from the cage and gently handling each of these wonderfull creatures sometimes brings tears to my eyes.

Watching as this pile of seemingly 15 or so babies magically turns into 20 and then 25 and then 32 !! lol

Watching them all pile into a huge wiggling mass in one little corner.. lol

and then hearing the satisfied remarks of customers who have purchased your animals... it's like that final 'pat on the back' that really matters...

I've never had the privillege of catching birth in the act, but i'm sure that will also tp the list!

My favorite part is the week up to and the day the babies arrive, i can sit and watch my female for hours on end during the last few days, just observing the way she behaves. The part I dont enjoy so much is selling off the babies knowing that I can't keep every one of them, but when I sell some to people I know and people who I know have a fondness for them I like that

The best part is cleaning up the mess when it is all said and done.That smell is the greatest.MMMMMM.

OK, maybe the smell isn't so great when it comes cleaning time, but when you walk in and smell it before seeing babies, you know whats up, and you kinda like the smell for a split second.
