View Full Version : Heat Conserv. = Gravid?
I have a cute little hypo male breeding my friend's virgin 9 ft female pastel. They have been courting on and off (usually on for a month, then off a couple days, he even courted through her shed cycles). They were introduced 14 weeks ago, she shed on dec. 28, and today I get off the phone with my friend (the happy couple is about 200 miles away) and he says she keeps wrapping up in a tight little pile, most likely the heat conservation position. Does this mean she's gravid? When I was there niether one of us noticed any swell ever, and she looks like she is going to go into shed cycle now, not blue but dark as im told. If the shed in december was post ovulation she is due on 4/10/04 We're both first time breeders, any ideas?
p.s. the male is no longer courting, safe to remove?

People have different opinions on removing the male after they know she is Gravid. I would remove him onc you know she is Gravid, and of course she sounds Gravid from what she is displaying. I'm first time Breeder as well, and she was clearly laying on her side week after I saw her in that same position. It reall was a site to see when there on there side, hehehe. People say they lose wieght during the pregnacy, mine has not really lost wieght. Rosy my Gravid female seems to be using the whole cage to lounge around.
When you said she was dark, not blue were you pertaining to her eyes?

I recommend to leave the male in. It has happened too many times were a female will go into a shed right before or durring the pre ovulation swell. I would wait for about another month to a month and a half and closely monitor them. just a thought.

That is true, don't really need to remove male so fast because she not going to give birth 105 days after that shed :)
Keep us posted GL
Well I do not know for sure if that dec shed was pos since no one noticed any swelling. Well I saw the happy couple over the weekend and I guess thursday night the female had shed. There is no more courthsip, all they do is sit together, her in the heat conservation position. The daytime temp on the hot side is 86 and the hotside at night is 77, but the 2 usually hang out at the cool side.
