View Full Version : Check out my female - bursting at the seams
Here are a couple pictures of one of my females (I have another one that is gravid too). I keep looking in on her everyday and expect something soon. Have enjoyed everyone else's pictures and comments.

I think she does look huge! Good luck!
I understand the cage being a bit dirty since she is gravid... I would have removed the male..
I do hope you have a thermostat regulating the temps of that Kane heat mat. If not, and it is too hot, chances are she will not produce viable babies... be carefull..

I hadn't noticed the mat but I was thinking the same thing about the male. She looks good though. Good luck with them! :'(
Guess I should have been more specific; the other boa is also a female who is also gravid. From the picture you can't really tell but she is huge too. Just waiting to see which one drops first. The male was taken out months ago. And the Kane heater is checked for temperature plus both females have another whole side which is not heated to move onto if they wish. I've used the Kane heater in the past and have had very viable offspring so I don't anticipate any problems. Thanks for being concerned though. :)

I am just curious, if you have two females that are gravid in the same cage, aren't you looking at potential trouble? Would one eat the others offspring? I hope no one laughs at me, but it just seems that two females giving birth in the same cage, may cause some problems. Just curious.

I see the concern Scooter, and no reason to feel embarassed I asked the same question to a local breeder a few years ago. (he keeps breeding groups of his bci to "save" room on the bigguns. He told me he had never witnessed any issues with multiple females being kept together while Gravid. (the group I asked him about in particular was a 1.4 group where 3 of the females became gravid) and he gained most of his boa experience while working for Tracy Barker at VPI, so I assume he knows quite a bit about it.
Also, Bamk, that second "smaller" female with the partial striped tail looks to have quite a bit of yellow showing in her body color. Is that accurate? or from light reflection/lighting giving that illusion. Just curious.. I love yellow boas so always looking to add new yellow blood where possible.

Congratz.. on the gravid females. I don't mean to sound rude here but, you need to clean that cage. I understand you don't want to disturb them, while gravid, but I'd get some of the mess out of there. Do partial cage cleanings, if there on one side you can sneak in and clean the other side.

I agree completely.....That cage looks like it hasn't been cleaned properly in years....you should really consider putting some laminate flooring in there to make it easier to clean. With all that bacteria spread around, if your females develop signs of scale rott I would not be surprised. But anyway, Congradulations!
I agree, it is a bit of a mess but I can't get either of them to go over to the other side and I don't want to force them to in fear that it may cause an early birth. It really isn't as bad as the picture makes it out to be and I have slid new newspaper in there recently (after that picture was taken). The smaller female does have a lot of yellow in her and two years ago she gave birth to two striped-tailed babies. I posted one of them on the boa constrictor picture site and it's titled "my favorite offspring." You might want to take a look at it. So I am hoping I get at least a couple more stripes this time. I expect her to drop within the week. I will post pictures when it happens. And the only real concern I have about having both gravid females in there is there is more of a chance of some of the babies getting smothered so I am keeping a close eye on both of them. Thanks everyone for all your comments and concerns. This is the best boa site I have ever found!! !
