Before I went riding earlier today, I cleaned my Gravid BCI's cage. I was gone from about 11:30 until 8:30 tonight. I went up and checked on the snakes and I saw that I had left the temp. probe hanging out of her cage :-/ :-/ :-X.....

It was very hot in the cage, on the cool end it was only in the mid 80's, however she was on the hot side. Her body temps from my temp gun read about 93-95. The warm side was a little higher than that. She is due to drop June 1st.

I do not know if this is going to affect the babies, but it seems like she would have went to the cool side if it was too hot. Please let me know if this is going to affect my babies, or if it should be okay. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks -Jesse Jelinek

I would geuss she, and her babys will be fine... I am sure she would have moved if it was too hot for her. Good luck :'(

Thank you so much ;D It just kind of flipped me out because her cage was so hot, and it had been like that all day.

I think I will drill a hole in the top of her cage to hang the probe through tonight, then something like this can't happen again!

Making the probe so it can only touch the area to be thermostaticaly controlled, will help out alot. If it touches your snake, and she's cooler than the temp the hot spot should be, it will kick the heat on, and make the hot spot hotter, as well as the whole enclosure. Make a loose sleave for the probe, so the temp is not changed by a snake resting on it, or touching it. Then you will have a stable enviorment.

Don't worry about it. The same thing happened to me about a month ago, it was 99.9F in there for a day, and I'm sure it was higher, but that is how high the thermostat in there went. She was fine, delivered 10 days later with not one dead baby or slug! No worries.
