A very bad day.

One of my females gave birth last night to 20 babies. They are premature, 15 still born, 5 alive but very weak, 1 slug.
117 POS and 137 days post ovulation.
My jungle-like male, proofs not to be real a jungle but stays a goodlooking abberant. And I feel very bad. :-/ :-X
I hope my two other females do better.

I wonder why they were so premature that far along? What kind of temps were you running? Maybe they were to low? Have you checked your thermometers to make sure they are exact? Once again I am sorry they didn't make it.

Thanks for all your support.
Night temperatures were around 79 degrees in the cages, not too high but certainly not too low either. Night temperature in the snake room never drops below 75 degrees. Day temps around 85 in the coolest spot in the cage. I think she aborted a week prior to birth. What the reason was for that and for the slow development, we can only gues. My vet didn't understand what could have happened. It was a small female, first litter. I heared somebody tell that in the first 3 months of the year the number of premature births and slugs were higher than in the months between may and august. There must have been a combination of factors causing this I am sure of that. Only what they were, I don't know.

I am deeply touched by your loss.. pics brought me to tears. So sorry for your loss, lets hope your now going to have great clutches with the other females. I too am on my first breeding I have four females and one male, just mated one month ago today.... Im so scared! think Id like to check into the cost of one of those temp guns. Concerning the genetic of your male , for sure it is not dominant , but it is may be recessiv so you will know it in about 3/4 years . Keep your optimism !
