July 29, 2005. Day 101 P.O.S. It's over!!!

which is redder than this animal shown above, who I acquired from Erich Gaertner of "Strictly Boas" fame, ovulated on March 28, 2005. I stole her from Erich by the way. She looked like this when Erich had her when she was about 3.5' or so:

She is the Pastel female #10 Erich was always taunting me with till the one day I managed to twist his arm so hard he had to give in and let her come home to Grandpa. Did I mention??? She is the sister of the male that produced the litter of Pearlescent Boas that were born here in 2004? Cool Dude...

Also, did I mention, her grandmother is the mother of the male that bred her this year? All that equals= Who knows. Time will tell...

He is a sibling to the original Pearlescent Hypo Male I produced back in 2000. Here he is in all the goo the day he was born:

Actually I don't see him either but he is in there. See the original Pearlescent Male separated out there in the back? He was also the best male Hypo from the litter. I had called them "Screamer Hypos" at the time. His sister is the animal that produced the first litter of "Scarlet Hypos" in 2003 and in 2004 more Pearlescent Boas! She is fully opaque right now and had a tremendous ovulation which I could not get a good photograph of to save my life. I can't wait till those puppies pop out of there...

Update!

She is doing everything right so far. She is measuring in at 88-89 degrees. She is already looking really big now too!

It's far to long to wait though! Babies aren't due till near the end of July! I'm biting off my nails and pulling out my hair., OK, so I am not pulling out my hair but I am really nervous!

So THAT'S what happened to your hair!
And here I was thinking it was a genetic trait.. ;D

Alright, day 72 after the P.O.S. and she is doing every just right so far. Only another 33 days to wait! That's nothing right? Less than five weeks! I am optimistic about this one at this point. She is about to have an intermediate shed so she is looking really yucky but she is really fat and sitting on the heat in the heat conservation position. These babies are going to be mind bending. I hope so anyhow. Time will tell...

I remember when I purchased a scarlet hypo from Erich I was looking through the pics at his site and saw that boa. I thought "Wow, now thats a perfect example of a pastel boa. I bet he wouldnt get rid of that one for anything!". Alas, J.Ronne has her! I shoulda knew it!

Today is day 99 from the P.O.S. and the countdown begins! The male that bred this female as some of you know is a sibling to the original Pearlescent male. That litter was the very first litter of Pastel Hypos ever produced. He was at that time one of the best Hypos anywhere. Certainly one of the best I had seen up until that point. The gravid female is one of the top three Pastels that I own. I am really optimistic about these puppies! After the unbelievable babies I had yesterday, now I can start thinking about these that will be here very very soon! I can't wait to see them. I hope there aren't any Pearlescents in this litter! I need to be able to sell some babies and if the litter has a mess of Pearlescents, I won't want to sell any till I prove out what happens with the next generation of those things. So keep your fingers crossed for me that we get some fantastic looking babies but nothing that fantastic OK?

She is acting like a normal gravid female so far. She was really big with the babies and is continuing to slim down as the time of delivery draws nearer. I think she will wait till after day 105 but right now that is just a wild guess...

Uh oh. Still day 99 but she for the first time tonight is on the move. Looking all over the cage. It could be any time I suppose but I'd rather her wait another week. But then I don't really have any choice do I? It's is likely going to rain tonight too...

Uh oh, day 100 at 6:53 PM and she is clearing out a nice spot in the corner for those puppies already. The back right corner right now. We'll see if that is where she ultimately has them...

Day 101 after the P.O.S. and it's all over. I missed it too. I thought it would be soon and had checked her just a little while ago and then check again and BOOM! It's all over! Great babies! Pictures coming later. Back to work then! I have some cages to get shipped!

OK, The cages are gone. 17 more out the door! Oh happy day! More baby Boas!!! What more can a guy ask for right? Looks like 18 or 20 babies and seven slugs this time. A nice litter too. Some really great Hypos and Pastels. In fact some of the Pastels are so nice, it's hard to differentiate them from the Hypos. Now once again, I will have to wait until these puppies shed. Ten more days of agony right? Yea right! I can wait. The Red Monster Tail Hypo's babies will be shedding tomorrow and or Sunday. Do you think I might be posting some pictures of them when they shed? Do you think so?

Anyhow, these are going to be great! A first generation Pastel Hypo bred to one of the best Pastel females anywhere. That is a recipe for absolutely lovely. More pictures of them after they shed!
