One of my hoggs has been trying to give birth for hours now, she passed 5 super hard and dry old slugs form last season. She is now pushing around as if she is done and trying to get the babys moving, but she is still LOADED, and contractions seem to have stopped. My Vets are not great with reptile's, I usualy have to tell them what to do, but I am at a loss on this one. Any help would be great.
Thanks, Ed

You must try "ocitocin" injection(it's an hormone), it's used on woman for contraction .

She was bound up, I massaged a mass of hardend slugs apart and she cleaned house. I got this female this season as "ovulating". Turns out she's had this load in her since last year. I got a whole litter worth of super hardened slugs, rotten hardened fully developed embryos, and 3 new slugs. The female is Ok, I will have to take her to a vet to make sure... I am tired angry and disgusted.. :-X :-X :-/ I am going to bed.. :o

Yes she did.
What I think happened, is she tryed to give birth last year like she did this time, got bound and pulled them back up after she was to tired to try and pass them any more. Then they just stayed there untill yesterday. There were a few slugs that were from this season, I believe if she hadn't been bred again she may have kept those slugs in her indefinitly. It was a graphic night, the embryos were fully developed, and almost fossilized, There were many that had broke their heads through their membrain inside the female and died in her last season. The membrains were not clear at this point, but a tanish solid color. The female drank a good bowl full of water last night and seems alright, it is amazing what tuff criters boas are, I am going to take her in and have her checked out to make sure there is no chance of infection. I am just glad I didn't lose the female, She was very pleasnt the whole time I was helping her, which supprised me I expected to get nailed a few times.

I am very glad to hear that you helped her pass the mass.. Quite unfortunate that this happened. Do you have any idea why she had this from issue last year? Could she have been too small for her first attempt? (I know she was owned by someone else then so most if not all would be speculation and guessing)
Is this problem going to deter you from breeding her in the future?

No I dont think she was to small, she is one of the largest hoggs I have ever seen, and 6 years old. If they get bound up and can't push out a dry slug, their contractions can stop after a while. The guy who had her before me just didn't know, to help her or didn't care. I don't know his story yet.... This girl was pushing through the 5 dry slugs she delivered on her own and was acting as if she was done..
sorry Ed ,I did not know that a boa could carry slugs that long ,hope she is alright ,,,,
